Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's question add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Thanks for playing along today...here we go-
1.What was the best (or one of the best) summers of your life? Tell us why.2. When you have a trip coming up do you make a list and check it twice to ensure you don't forget anything? Or are you a 'throw whatever you can think of into the suitcase at the last minute' kind of packer? When returning from a trip do you unpack immediately or leave the suitcase right where it lands?
I like to make a packing list, if not an actual list then at least one in my head. For big trips (more than a weekend away) I try to lay things out in one of the guest rooms a day or two before traveling, which makes packing feel a little bit less overwhelming.
I am 100% an unpack that bag as soon as we get home. I usually throw a load of wash in right way too, and return the suitcase to the basement where it's stored.
3. What's your favorite food or beverage made with lemons? Is that a flavor you enjoy?
Lemon is one of my absolute favorite flavors, maybe even number one. I love all things lemon. Lemonade, lemon bars, lemon candies, limoncello, lemon pie...
Not sure I can narrow it down to just one favorite food or beverage, but chicken or veal piccata or chicken/veal francese would definitely make the list. I make a couscous dish with cucumber that has a lemony dressing and that's another favorite here.
4. When was the last time you had to make lemonade out of lemons, figuratively speaking I mean?
The landscapers are here to begin work on our large backyard project. The project is on the lake side of the house, and involves a small hill, plus a bunch of other stuff, but the hill is why they were coming by barge. I think.
Let me just insert here when it comes to this type of project that has 1000 moving parts I want to adopt an attitude of 'call me when it's done', and believe me I will try. Already on day one I had to weigh in on something because hubs wasn't home but my goal is to be surprised by how beautiful it all turns out lol.
Anyway, back to the lemonade...the original deal was they would bring all the materials by barge, which let me just say, that particular cost is not small. However, when they started calculating the actual amount of materials they'd need to haul it would have required four barges. FOUR!!!!
You'd probably faint if I told you what that number is (I sweat just thinking about it), but not to worry, we're making lemonade. Materials can and will be brought over land, which is a bit more of a hassle for the people doing the actual work, and will likely not be great for the driveway or the grass, but these things can be set right when the project is finished.
Hubs is going to be antsy until the whole thing is done, and he will be down there snapping pictures and asking questions and giving me more updates than I want, so I don't need to worry as long as he's available.
5. Did you like school growing up? Why or why not?
I loved school.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Is anyone on Threads? It's connected to Instagram in some way and I keep trying to read things that take me to Threads and then get a message saying I need to create an account in order to keep reading. Is it a thing? Is it worth checking out? I feel like Insta is enough to keep up with, but maybe this is the next thing? Or not?
Have a great Wednesday everyone!

I have that same question about Threads!
ReplyDeleteYou were so cute!
You named so many lemon foods that I forgot about - bars and loaf. Yum! I used lots of lemon in the salmon I made last night. My good friend's mom just published a cookbook called A Taste of Lemon.
Ugh - house projects. They really stress me out. We have a kitchen reno coming one of these days and I am nervous. I can't be without my kitchen for that terribly long so I need it to be all mapped out.
My answer was chicken piccata, regarding the flavor and a recipe with lemon that I love. How funny that we both said that! I loved the questions this week, and have enjoyed reading other's answers. Your summer at camp in 1975 sounds amazing; I love that things like that mold us into our future selves, you know? My teenage summers shaped me into who I am today, and though I strayed from the Lord, I never went too far! Thank you for sharing with us today, my friend.
ReplyDeleteCute KG picture! I agree with you that I have always loved learning (MOST subjects, lol) but I did not like nearly everything associated with the institution of school. So you were told materials for your project would come by barge even though presumably the person who told you knew they could be delivered another way? At least someone figured out that four barges were not necessary. Outdoor projects must be a guy thing. My husband is so excited about ours and I am like, show me when it is done!! Thanks for the link up!
ReplyDeleteThey always knew by land was an option, but by water was so much better and would have created less mess in the front of the house. Water would hae been a drop off at the shore, now they have to bring everything around and it's a hill so these guys will be getting their steps for sure!
DeleteProjects!? I'm a call me when it's done person when it comes to projects. I like to take off all day and come back to see the progress when everyone has gone for the day. I'm sure things are going to be amazing when it is all done. I like all the lemony things you like and that I didn't think of. That backpacking trip sounds like a great character builder. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your experience on the Appalachian Trail sounds like a life-changing time in your journey! I can only imagine how you feel about the four barges of supplies. Redoing anything around the house seems to take so many $'s and so many supplies.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to hike a portion of that but I don't think I'm quite ready. Maybe when I turn 50!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness your project sounds huge and yes I would just want to be able to blink and it all be done! I'm in your camp on Threads - haven't ventured there yet. I think that although you create an account it's linked to your main Insta account so it probably doesn't feel like an extra account - just an extra thing you can do. I need to check with someone from the younger generation lol.
ReplyDeleteThat summer sounds incredible and life-changing indeed. As I thought over my own summers in regards to the question, I just couldn't think of one that stood out. Many of them had challenging times and big responsibilities. So I picked this summer we're in. We've been able to do many things we love and had some truly special times with friends, family, and one another.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl - hiking 8 days!?! I cannot even imagine. Wow. And wow to your backyard project. That looks intense!! I'm sure it will be amazing once it is finished. Thanks for the questions and the link-up today!!
ReplyDeleteWow, the Appalachian Trail! That had to be an amazing experience. I agree with your packing for a trip. I also have a list of things that have to be done in the house like timer lights and a full list of things besides that. Your lemon loves sound wonderful. Hope all goes well with you project. Love your photo and glad that you enjoyed your school years. I believe I recently got a pop up about Threads but didn't follow through on it. Let's us know what you find out. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the questions again this week, Joyce. Summer of 75 sounds like a fun and learning time for you. My brother walked over half the AT just a few years before he passed away. I've been on bits and pieces of it when we've been in the Smoky's, when walking and hiking some of the trails there. When I was answering, I couldn't even think of anything except lemonade, but now I remember I do like lemon cookies too.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have been able to hike the Appalachian Trail. My dad was born there, and I've always been drawn to the area. What an incredible experience.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Thread; then again, I don't use social media except for X. But you know how it goes; now that it's been mentioned, I will see it all over the place.
Adorable photo of you as a child. You look so happy.
Lately, I've been grappling with a lot of anxiety, and the mere idea of starting that massive home project would have me hiding under the covers or rocking myself in a corner! It's good your husband is handling it.
Thanks so much for the Hodgepodges. I am finding that I really do enjoy it.
The 8 day hiking trip sounds life-changing! The backyard project will be amazing when finished, but like you I would feel like saying "Let me know when you're finished." I think Meta had high hopes that Threads would be the new Twitter, but it hasn't taken off. Thanks for the fun link up.
ReplyDeleteI do not know what Threads is.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your completed project.
Thanks for hosting.
Wow, that time on the Appalachian trail sounds so impressive! I have a girlfriend that has hiked the whole thing (in parts) a time or two and it always sounds so impressive (and hard!) to me. I don't even know what Threads is! LOL I just barely joined Instagram this past year or so.. I'm not much into any social media.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Thread. Seventh grade....this is the only grade I will refuse to TEACH!!! I told my principal something is wrong with seventh graders; they are still sweet in 6th grade, in 7th grade something happens to them (maybe hormones), and 8th grade rolls around and they are getting more mature.
ReplyDeleteI liked your answers, for the first time you can find my answers on my blog, I have linked up but this the link anyway. https://jamfn.blogspot.com/2024/08/my-first-hodgepodge.html
ReplyDeleteI love your kindergarten picture! Don't think I've seen that one before. Reminds me of my sweet kiddos. Good thing you have a super awesome vacation planned to recover from this latest house project ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious kindergarten photo! I look forward to seeing the before and after pictures of the backyard renovation. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't wait to see the finished photos of your latest project. We find projects almost always cost wayyyy more than anticipated. :o)) Cute picture! Thanks for your sweet thoughts about Daddy.
ReplyDeleteI wrote in my Hodgepodge answers that I'm not fond of lemon-flavored anything, but I forgot about limoncello! I happen to love limoncello. Go figure!! I enjoyed your answers, Joyce. Sorry to know nothing about Threads. Love your kindergarten photo!! It will be fun watching your hub's project come alive! xo
ReplyDeleteLoved that answer about your Appalachian Trail summer! Sounds like a wonderful experience. I forgot about limoncello, which I always choose if it's on a dessert menu. Hope your big project goes smoothly and that you can just be delighted with how it all turned out when it's done. :-)
ReplyDeleteLemon Meringue pie is something I enjoy but seldom get to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what that outdoor project is and how it turns out. Like you, I don't like to be involved with those projects if hubby can oversee everything.
I' with you on #2. Oh my...that would be crazy to haul and pay for stuff by barge...my aunt lives on an island on lake erie and it's expensive to bring materials over on the ferry.
