Riding in Cars with Boys

As I may have mentioned in a previous post or six, we have been waiting on our sea shipment to be released from captivity (that's US Customs in non-angry English).  Our shipment actually consists of  two containers which are the size of very large moving vans. One is filled with all of our (hopefully undamaged) furniture and the other contains  a little car my hubs bought not long after we arrived in the UK.

She's cute.

She is a sweet reminder of England.

And today she is at home in our garage in the USA.

And this is one happy boy.

Dixie is pretty excited too.

Course you can't unpack all your clothes and put them away in a little car.  And you can't cook dinner in a little car.  And you can't plop down in your jammies and watch tv in a little car.   For those things you need honest to goodness furniture.  Which is STILL in US customs.

  1. Glad the car came, even if the furniture hasn't. A guy has to have his toy!!! Love the red MG! My husband's first new car that he bought was a Triumph TR-6. We went on our honeymoon in that sports car. It was fun! The area around your home looks beautiful! I'm praying that your furniture will be released soon. Dixie is such a pretty dog. She looks right at home riding in the car! Love & blessings from NC!

  2. I can finally leave comments now. Glad the car made it in one piece. hope all our stuff gets their asap. can't wait for your visit that's really soon! I miss you a lot.

  3. You crack me up. I loved this post. Well . . . at least you got the car - but I'm with you - I would need all my stuff more. You are a patient woman, and you shall be rewarded, somehow - someday - hopefully SOON!
Well, just keep us posted! We'll endure the wait right along with you!
Have a great time riding around in the car! LOVE THE RED!! (Gee - I wonder why?)

  4. Just found you on " Sit A Spell" and I will be back.
Can't help but wonder when you will get your Stuff for the house. Must keep a check on that.
I pray nothing good is damaged when it arrives.
    Elsie <><

  5. Joyce,

Your posts are so fun. And I still (after two years) find myself using British phrases . . . brilliant, uni and trousers are some of the ones that get me the oddest looks!

So glad your MG made it. We had an older (but really cool) Porsche in Holland and brought it to the UK. The Dutch movers drove it up the ramp into the moving truck already half full of many of our earthly possessions. The clutch was really sensitive and after their third failed attempt, I had to just go in the back yard and pray. To imagine them getting enough speed to get it up their obviously too steep ramps but then be able to stop before they plowed into my furniture seemed impossible. But it happened. They told us we couldn't bring it back here because of the catalytic converter so a friend drove it back to Holland and sold it for us.

Glad you at least got the car and am praying that the rest is released quickly.

  6. Hope your things show up soon meanwhile, go for a nice drive in your very cute car =O) I like how the dog fits in

  7. Hey, I think he's driving on the wrong side of the road!

  8. Hi Cindy! Ours was supposed to be shipped in the container with our belongings but the moving company only sent a regular 40 ft. container instead of a high one so they had to ship separately. A friend went with T to drop it off near Hanger Lane and he videotaped the loading but had to stop midway because, according to the friend, 'I had to help catch it.' So glad I wasn't the one helping out! If a car is more than 25 years old they don't require the conversion anymore. It's fun to see you here : )

  9. That car is great! My younger son would be in heaven to have one.
I'd just die if I didn't have access to my furniture and "stuff" needed to live my daily life. I hope you get everything in soon. Then you can spend your days unpacking.

  10. That car is a beaut, but I would be lost without my stuff. I wonder if it feels funny to your hubs driving in the wrong side of the car on the "right" side of the road. Hmm...

Hope you get your things really soon.

  11. Ok, this is too cute! Hold on Sweet Dixie.... :)

  12. Oh she is so cute! You can definitely be happy riding around in a little red convertible with the man you love!
