Good Fortune

Last night I was all set to prepare dinner before realizing I wasn't. Am I the only one who does this? Let's back up to Monday night when I had originally planned to serve a yummy pasta dish made with shrimp, asparagus and pancetta...the girls and I had stopped at a supermarket out near the mall on Monday since it was convenient. I didn't like the look of the produce in that store so I went with Plan B for dinner Monday night and figured I'd make the pasta dish on Tuesday. Yesterday we popped into our usual market to pick up the last minute items we'd need but as I was pulling everything out to actually cook I realized we'd forgotten something essential.

And I guess the 'we' here would technically be me.

Note to self: A list. Never leave home without one. Your brain isn't 20 anymore. In fact your brain isn't even 30 anymore. And I could go on but I think I've made my point.

So it was on to Plan C...we went out for Chinese food. I love that my husband is always happy to eat out and we all love Chinese food. We had such a nice time talking and laughing...just one of those family dinners that was relaxed and happy and fun. Oh, and the icing on the cake? My husband's fortune...

I think this one's a keeper.

  1. Good old New Jersey Chinese food works for me! In fact, food there, especially Italian, is the best. Have you been to Hoboken and gone to "Benny Tudinos" or any pizzeria there for that matter? It's wonderful.

It's not fun when you miss that one item you really needed to cook a recipe with. But, then again, eating out is always nice.

  2. Joyce,

I too have to remember a list and add things to it as I remember them. Too often have I found myself in the store trying desperately to remember what it was that was on the list that remains still attached to the refrigerator at home.

Love your fortune. You should definitely keep it!

  3. I do the same thing all the time. Unfortunately, I'm usually already in the middle of making something! Then I have to ask Brian to stop at the store before he comes home and then we have to wait an extra 45 minutes for dinner to be done.

And I LOVE that fortune! Very funny! It would look great mounted on some pretty paper and matted and framed. A whimsical piece of art. In fact, I might to do that with a fortune I kept a few years ago that said, "You are busy but you are happy." Too true.

  4. Me and lists are quite good friends. Don't get much accomplished without one! And that's a funny fortune!

  5. Oh, I love eating out. My husband thinks it is a waste of money. And he is perfectly happy to eat oatmeal or toast for dinner. So, darn for me. :)

  6. Thank goodness for Plan C!

Lists...I'm lost without them! Can't remember a thing anymore. I blame it on menopause.

    Love hubby's fortune!

  7. Fortune cookies are the best. I have rules about eating and reading them. I have to take a bite of the cookie BEFORE I read the fortune or it won't come true.

That could be a whole 'nother blog post.

ANYWAY, back in the day when Mr. CPQ and I were just dating, he had mistakenly called things off with me. I was devastated, as I knew he was The One, and I was eating lunch with a coworker and telling him all my woes when I opened my fortune cookie, took a nibble and read it. It said, and I quote, "Your objective is difficult, but worth it."

Total sign to stick with Mr. CPQ. I brought it back to my office, taped it to my bulletin board, and waited him out. He called two days later and we've been together ever since.

I'm with you on the lists... My lists even have lists. LOL! I am lost without my "to do" list. Enjoy the rest of your week with the girls. You and I will be sad on Sunday!! Love & blessings from NC!
