Wednesday Hodgpodge-Vol 8 Days of Auld Lang Hodgepodge

Welcome to the first Hodgepodge in 2011...so glad you played along today. Be sure to add your link at the bottom and then hop around and visit 'your neighbors'. Daughter2 and I are spending the day with my mom so it might take me a couple of days to read all the entries but I'll do my best. Happy New Year Hodgepodgers!

1. What three words would you use to describe 2010?

confusing, busy, blessed

2. If fear were not an issue what is something you'd like to try?

Scuba diving. I'm a good swimmer and I love pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans so it's not the water or the creatures lurking beneath that make me anxious. What concerns me is the part about no air. I'm a teensy bit claustrophobic so that whole mask over the face thing makes my heart beat fast. Hubs is certified to dive and says I'd love it. Hmmm...would I...or does he just need a diving partner?

3. What do you add to your coffee or tea?

I like a small splash of half and half in my coffee and will also go ahead and tell you that I am not at all a fan of flavored coffees. I drink my tea (preferably Earl Gray) with half a teaspoon of sugar and a little bit of milk. I don't like cream in my tea so if milk isn't available then I drink it plain. Sometimes I skip the sugar too. If I'm not feeling well I like tea with lemon in place of the milk. I also love iced tea and prefer that sweetened. These days, for the sake of my waistline, I drink it mostly unsweetened... either way it must have lots of ice and lots of lemon. I am not high maintenance.

4. What historical sporting event would you like to witness?

I'd like to have seen Mary Lou Retton earn her perfect 10...

I'd also like to have been in the stands when the Tennessee Volunteers beat Florida State for the National Championship in 1998...I'd like to have seen Secretariat cross the finish line in 1973...and I'd like to have seen the 1980 US Hockey team's unlikely win over the Soviet Union at the Lake Placid Olympics.

Well now, who knew I was such a sports nut?

5. What is one piece of advice you would like to give your sixteen year old self?

Be true to who you are~don't try to be something you're not. And you might also want to try developing some self discipline...your 50 year old self is going to need it.

6. Are you a planner or do you prefer to fly by the seat of your pants?

Is it possible to be a planner who flies by the seat of her pants? 'Cuz that's what I think I am. I plan...oh how I love to plan. But I'm not always good at the follow thru which is why I sometimes end up flying by the seat of my pants.

7. What is one thing you are looking forward to in 2011?

How about filling a blank slate? For the first time in a long time we have a year stretching out in front of us without a lot of big plans. Hubs and I would love to take a nice holiday somewhere but so far we haven't put pen to paper. Or credit card to internet if you know what I mean.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm going with friends next week to a taping of the Dr. Oz show. I've never actually watched his show so I only know what I've read, but I think it's safe to say he's not going to be happy about all the sugar I consumed in December. What do you think?

Thanks for a great week of questions.

  2. I think I may be one of those planners who likes to fly by the seat of my pants.
After weddings two summers in a row, and a college graduation, our 2011 is looking pretty wide open as well. What to do, what to do...
I think Dr. Oz is awesome. Let us know when we need to watch so we can see you!

  3. Great job this week on the questions. I think there will be a lot of us telling our 16 year selves to be true to who we are.

  5. Joyce, I loved your answers this week--and I agreed with a lot of them! It would be great to witness one of those "history-making" Olympic moments!

Have fun at the Dr. Oz taping. I've recently began watching his show regularly, and am learning lots of "healthy tips". Can't wait to hear about the experience.

  7. Love your answers, especially #5 and 6. Oh, I bet going to the Dr. Oz show will be fun, fun. I watch him while I iron and really enjoy most of what he has to say.

Thanks for hosting us each week and blessings ahead!

  8. Love your answers! Good luck with Dr Oz. I had to quit watching him because he finds danger in everything and I was getting paranoid!

  9. I especially loved your advice!

I need to wean myself off of some of my sweet drinks but they are so tasty!

  10. I would love to scuba dive too. I just imagine that it would be so peaceful and beautiful.

I'm also with you about flying be the seat of my pants. I too plan, but follow through is so, so.

  14. Oh, thank you for the clip of Mary Lou! I put that too! I'm joining for the first time today...and so enjoyed myself and all the other blogs I met! Thank you for hosting!

  15. I'm joining in for the first time today. Love your answers to #5 and 6. I'm not a sports enthusiast but I did see on TV all the sports events you mentioned except for the TN vs. FL game -- ironic since I just moved to TN! Would've been neat to have been at any of those and a part of the roar of the crowd.

  16. I'm a planning flyer too :) HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  17. Yep. From what I hear, Dr. Oz doesn't allow his staff to hoard junk-food at the office. ha.

Scuba? You could absolutely do it. We've done 'snuba' before. Snorkeling + Scuba = Snuba. You don't go as deep. It's the scare of the critters that gets me. *shivers* When I asked the guide if they see many sharks in this area... He said, "No, they bite you from behind." ack! I went in the water anyway. ha.

So, so sorry about mixing up your name with Linda!! Could you tell I was thinking about the Random Dozen? I believe that's how you and I met. ;) It's fixed now. I know your name. I really do. Promise.

  18. Wow, I can't believe you don't have any big trips planned yet but I am sure you will fill the year with many! That would have been a great Olympics to be at. Yes you can be a planner who flys by the seat of her pants!!! I love Dr. Oz, have a great time.
