Award Winning Thursday Fragments

I'm afraid that title may have raised your expectations beyond what is reasonable, but I'm going with it anyway.  Last week Julia over at Mom on the Run gave me a blog award, and I know I said I don't do awards, but when someone gives me one I can't not play along. Thank you Julia!

I'm only going to cheat a little.

I'm supposed to share ten things about myself, and I have to wonder if there are ten things I haven't already told you? Back in the early days of my blog I did one of those '100 things about me' posts. It's in my sidebar under Inquiring Minds Want to Know if you're an inquiring mind and want to know. I reread it and it's still accurate, except I've now been married for 29 years. Same guy.

I started this post this morning, and then the Internet shut down thanks to the cable company working on our street.  I didn't get back to it until late in the afternoon, at which point I somehow accidentally deleted everything above #9. Aaacckk! I'm thinking now I'll go ahead and link this with the Friday Fragment hop too because it's practically Friday, and this is definitely fragments. Here we go-

1. I love random fragments. My favorite blog posts to read are the ones where the writer shares snippets of an ordinary day. I think those posts connect us more than some of the deeper stuff that's written every day.

2. Pinterest makes me happy.

3. So does Instagram.

4.  I rarely ever rant on my blog. I want to, but I don't.

I will just say New York! Seriously?  Eliot Spitzer and Anthony Weiner? In a city of more than 8 million people, this is who the citizens want to hold up as leaders? I wish we cared more.

5.  Sometimes when I cannot handle any more political smarminess I go to YouTube and watch Susan Boyle's audition on Britain's Got Talent. That video clip still makes me smile.  Does anyone not skip the ads on YouTube when given the option?

6.  I love anything in a little blue box tied with a white bow.

Hubs had some sort of work thing yesterday that is too much to explain here, but suffice it to say involved several events, including playing the piano in the floor of FAO Schwartz, the one made famous in the movie BIG, as well as instruction in how to tie a proper Tiffany bow, and some other stuff which I didn't pay attention to because he lost me at Tiffanys.

He couldn't bring the box home empty now, could he?

7.  I've been reading more and computering less this summer. When I say reading I mean actual books as opposed to my electronic reader.

Yes I know e-readers are actual books, but they're not book books. I appreciate the convenience of an e-reader, especially when traveling, but I realized recently that I miss holding an honest to goodness hard cover book in my hand. I still like to turn actual pages, and then let the book fall to the floor when I doze off. Can't do that with an Ipad.

Well you can, but you'd be sorry.

8. It doesn't feel like it's really summer until I've had my favorite food in all the world-Maryland Blue Crabs... steamed til they're no longer blue, covered in Old Bay seasoning, picked and eaten beside the water. That will happen soon.

9. I have always liked Amy Grant's music and am slightly obsessed with her new album-How Mercy Looks from Here.

10. I like to follow the rules.

Now for the part where I cheat...I'm supposed to pass this award on to ten bloggers, but I will just say if your blog is full of epic awesomeness consider yourself tagged.

Unknown Mami

And if you have fragments to share why not hop over to Unknown Miami's blog on Friday and add your link there too.  Have a great weekend!

  2. Congrats on the award. It was fun hearing some new things about you.

  3. I used to be able to spend hours reading a real book and I love to read. Now I find myself with iPad in hand and even when I have an ebook open for reading, I find that I must continually flip back and forth between the chapters, or check email, or read a blog, or google something. There seems to be such a serious lack of concentration.

  4. Tiffany's awesome! I have been reading more too and holding the book too. I am on mission to read classics that I have missed. I just finished 'Gone With the Wind' and now onto 'The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn'.
So, what have you been reading?

  5. I always worry because my blog is nothing but a collection of fragments ... is it too boring? Your comment for #1 gives me hope that others might actually enjoy it - a little?

There's nothing much better than Maryland Blue Crabs! When we visited the OBX, we wanted to drive up to Virginia to see a couple of lighthouses. Well, if we were that close to Maryland, we HAD to go across the border to get some crab! Yum!

I, too, like Amy Grant ... I will check out her new work.

  6. Congratulations on your award!
I wish people cared more too.
I also like a real book.
    Have a good weekend!

  7. I am so with you on holding a "book book." I have really enjoyed reading more this summer, too, and "computering" less, as you say:). So...what's in the Tiffany cube, or is it a crystal paperweight? Inquiring minds want to know!

  8. I had the exact conversation about books with some friends last night. I don't know the last time I've read a real paper book though. I'm quite attached to reading them on my ipad now. Not sure if I could go back to a book.

  9. I still love that Susan Boyles video too and have watched it many times.
I read a lot on my e-reader, but I still go to the library once a week or so. Even if I don't find anything I just like going to the library.

  13. Tiffany blue makes me happy too! You can't help but smile when you see it handed to you :-)

I hear you on NY politics. OMGosh! What a sad state of affairs (no pun intended).

    Happy Friday Frag, jj

  14. I enjoyed your post today, and love your crystal Tiffany box! I do still enjoy Susan Boyle's video. My Nexus7 has all my books now, and I'm not sure I even remember how to hold a "real" book anymore! I agree with everyone about your epic awesomeness and that you deserve the award!

  15. I enjoyed your fragments and can relate to but the blue crab. :D
You are so right, although an electronic reader is a book of sorts it just isn't the same as holding those bound pages while one reads.

  16. Joyce, I agree, there's nothing quite like an 'actual' book. I've been doing more book reading, too.

I also agree with your comment about New York's choices of men. So sad. :(

Have a great weekend--we're expecting more rain...

  17. I love book books. I could make a list of the way they're better than ebooks but I'll spare you that.

  18. Congratulations on the award. I always post them but don't pass them on anymore either. I love that little blue box too and love what your received. Love that you watch Susan Boyle on YouTube....and I skip the commercials always! I am trying to switch to reading more. I read on vacation and then I get back home and here I am on my computer. I am all about holding a real book in my hand always. Have a nice weekend.

  19. I absolutely adore the kindle app on my iphone, but real paper books don't need to be charged...so, there's that.
I love the name of the award! lol

  20. I am in total agreement with you on the book thing. Especially when camping. I can nap with a book on my lap and not have to worry about it breaking if it should happen to fall off! :)

  21. One of the biggest down sides to living waaaaay inland is lack of fresh seafood. Have some crab for me!

  22. Well, I,too, still like a book book and like you, love my IPad for travel reading, but I still enjoy holding a regular book and depending on what it is, underlining in it.

I saw on Shannon's blog where you all will be together today eating crabs with her friend boy. What fun!

As always, I enjoy stopping by.............

  23. I havn't seen a new blog award in awhile, congratulations!
Amen to the New York frag. Seriously, I do not understand this craziness and acceptance of bad behavior. Its becoming an epidemic.
I was in love with books and reading long before I became an author. I love my nook and kindle for traveling too but at home nothing beats the real thing. One of my favorite things about signing books at Barnes & Noble stores and other book stores was watching people going up and down the aisles looking at all the books and the look on their faces when they found a good one. Some people spend hours browsing. It happened in every city I visited. That gives me hope that real books will be around forever:)
I'm in love with Amy Grant's new music too, beautiful!

  24. Haha, I don't really like to play with those award things. They smell a little bit too much like letter trees that never end.

We just moved from MD and I hope you get your crab soon. I love crab cakes their way....well, anything crab, I love ;-)

Finally making my rounds through FF. Have a good one!

  25. Congrats on the award Joyce! And, I admire that you don't rant on your blog. I am torn because I find blogging my way of letting people know "me" and I like using the spot as a sounding board. Staying silent on issues isn't always right, but it's sometimes hard to express oneself without coming off pushy. To speak out - or not. That is the question!

  26. I loved these bits and pieces of you. I just started using ebooks lately and I am so happy, I still prefer an actual book, but with a 2 and 4 year old, I don't get any reading of actual books done, being able to read ebooks makes me realize how much I've missed reading something other than blogs.
