One item of business to note-there will not be any Hodgepodge next week (June 9/10). It's crunch time here in terms of our move, and I'll be busy signing papers and hauling bins and boxes from here to there. Thanks for understanding! The HP will return the week after-June 16/17.
Now on with the show-
1. What's something you're looking forward to in the month of June?
Daughter 1's birthday, a weekend reunion with summer camp friends, seeing the completed lake house design drawings, closing on our house in NJ. It's a big month on this side of the pond!

2. In what way have you come full circle?
Lots of ways, but for now I'll just say we signed the papers to close on this house the day before our 25th wedding anniversary back in 2009. We'll be signing the papers to sell this house just a week before our 31st, and somehow that feels full circle.

3. Lonely Planet lists 10 spots in America you should see in 2015 and the reasons why. How many on the list have you seen? Which one on the list would you most like to see?
Queens NY, Western South Dakota, New Orleans, Colorado River Region, North Conway NH, Indianapolis IN, Greenville SC, Oakland CA, Duluth MN, and the Mount Shasta Region CA.
I've spent a lot of time in Greenville and think it's a lovely little town. Both my girls attended uni in Greenville, and we're moving to that general area, which I'm really excited about. My answer today would be the Mount Shasta Region because it's billed as a hikers paradise and we enjoy hiking and the great outdoors.

4. A song that describes your mood right now?
The first thing that popped into my head was Dizzy by Tommy Roe. It's an old song and it's really about a girl and a boy, but that first line fits me to a T right now.
'I'm so dizzy my head is spinnin'...like a whirlpool it never ends.'

5. Strawberry ice cream, strawberry short cake, strawberry pie, or strawberries right off the vine...your favorite?
There's nothing quite like a strawberry eaten right off the vine so that's probably my favorite. I do love strawberry short cake too, and wouldn't say no if you set a piece in front of me.

6. Aesop's birthday is celebrated on June 4th, although there is some disagreement as to whether or not that's accurate, or if he was even a real person. Regardless, the name Aesop is associated to this day with many well known fables. Which of the following best applies to something in your life right now? The Tortoise and the Hare (Slow and Steady wins the race), The Ant and the Grasshopper (Be prepared), The Fox and the Goat (Look before you leap) or The Crow and the Pitcher (Necessity is the mother of invention)?
The Ant and the Grasshopper. We're moving into a rental for probably close to a year, and we're trying to anticipate what we'll need to have with us and what is okay to send to storage. I'm erring on the side of preparedness.

7. The answer is yes...what's the question?
Is there much going on in your life right now?

I'm not sure how much blog reading I'll be able to do in the next few days. I have movers coming this week, and I guess I need to face the music andhave lunch and dinner with friends finish the great clean out of 2015. We had some furniture hauled away yesterday, the little red car will be collected for transport today, and oh yeah...we still don't know where we're going to live.
I suppose that would make some people anxious, but honestly we've moved enough for me to know that 'every little thing is gonna be alright'. Maybe I should have picked Bob Marley as my answer to #4?

Moving is so overwhelming! We moved this time last year. Praying all goes well! Thanks for hosting! This is my first Hodgepodge Wednesday and I'm looking forward to doing more!
ReplyDeleteHope your move goes smoothly, and you find a great rental.
ReplyDeleteI like strawberries right off the vine. Good luck on your new move! and you are right-deep down everything will be alright.
ReplyDeleteJoyce, again, good luck with the close & move. Shasta Lake is known for houseboating too. Bay area people come vacation there. The mountain back in my day (years ago) was not really a hikers paradise but maybe they have made some trails...or maybe I was just overwhelmed as a new mother & didn't have my mind on long, leisurely hikes! lol
ReplyDeleteSo much going on in your life. Good thing you're experienced with moving.Have a good, safe, and productive week. We'll see you when you return. Thanks for the Hodgepodge, Joyce.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move, hopefully all goes smoothly!
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you are fairly calm. I think the moving experience helps a lot. Best of luck in the next couple of weeks, Joyce. I enjoy hearing about your journey!
ReplyDeleteWhew! So much is going on with you, right now, it's no wonder your head is dizzy :) I hope everything goes smoothly and you get settled soon.
ReplyDeleteAs always, thanks for hosting The Hodgepodge--even in the midst of everything you have going on around you! You're amazing.
Good Luck on the move. Our next move will be the last, wink. Blessings
ReplyDeleteGoodness you have been soo busy for soo long and there is not much end in sight for quite a while! How exciting though to be having a house built to your own liking, and at starting this new chapter and season in your life as you enter your retirement years....and soo young still too! I don't have to say enjoy it...I know you will!
ReplyDeleteI hope the move goes as smoothly as it can.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all the things. Sounds just a tad bit overwhelming to me. And kind of fun moving back in with your mom at 50 something. :) Have a great week (or two!).
ReplyDeleteA move is always bittersweet when you've made dear friends and are close to a certain set of family members in exchange for another place where there are other family and dear friends. I don't envy the actual moving part, but I'll be thinking of you as we help our son and DIL move (shortly after their 2nd wedding anniversary). I'll have you on my prayer list as you transition (and transition again). You said it--"every little thing's gonna be all right."
ReplyDeleteBest to you Joyce!
ReplyDeleteYou have so much to look forward too! I am really excited for you :-)
Have a great week! And thank you for the Hodgepodge in the middle of it all!
Carla
Your June sounds busy and wonderful. It is a hard decision knowing exactly what to bring. We lived in an apartment for six months before our home was done. I did appreciate the "less is more" time we had there.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 25! Visit Kansas City. Way better than those places. :)
ReplyDeleteMount Shasta looks like a mini Mt. Fuji from afar - the whole area is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDizzy...boy does that bring up the memories. Very excited for you! Praying this move and transitions go smoothly!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, you do seem very calm and I'm going to let you serve as my inspiration in the weeks ahead. I'm assuming you must have had someone come and pack you up. Surely you have not had the time to do that. I've gotten well over 75% of our house packed up and we are surviving just fine, so guess it doesn't take near as much as I think to live. So, bet you'll make it fine for a year on what you choose to leave out of storage. Blessings my friend!
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think of a song with dizzy in it too because I feel like my head it spinning. Once I get something in my head, it just starts swirling with ideas and that's how I've been feeling lately.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see photos of your new home once it is done. I know it is going to be beautiful! Enjoy :)
I enjoyed your answers this week, Joyce. As always, a fun Hodgepodge. Will miss you over the next week or so, but look forward to catching up with all that is going on when you can return!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes are you start this new adventure! I'm anxious to watch pictures of your new home going up. You are posting progress pictures right?? :) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe Laconia M/C Rally is one of the three oldest in the U.S, the others being Sturgis, ND, and Daytona Beach, FL. Good luck with the transfer of your life to the Palmetto State. I know it can be tedious. Wishing you both all the best.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have everything under control - or at least that's how it comes across. I hope the first stage (moving out) goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteLots of changes coming in your life. I love the Greeneville area. Hubby has always wanted to live there. In fact, I have spent some time on the internet in the past looking at homes around there. I know there will be some anxious times, but I hope you will be able to sit back and relax and enjoy the process of moving and building. Life sounds very exciting for you right now. But remember, God has it all in His hands and will take care of you through it all.
ReplyDeleteCould not get it together to play along this week! Do you find you get more accomplished when there is more to do? Me too. Ha. I don't relish all you have to do but it does sound exciting!
ReplyDeleteHi Joyce! New adventures for you, huh? A new house is exciting...and a little exhausting at the same time!
ReplyDeleteYou said you're moving into an apartment but looking at Lakehouse plans, I've not kept up with your changes but it sounds like you're building a house. Is that the final one to live in?
ReplyDeleteI've spent the month of May helping my Daughter get everything done at my late ex-son in law's house so that she could move in there with the kids...and packing and moving her......since it was two households combining there were a lot of decisions about what to keep and what to store for the children to have later, etc. Just 4 years ago, I helped her move out of the same house and set up housekeeping in a smaller home for herself and the children. She had joint custody. Plus, she was trying to sale some of his cars and other possessions.
On another note, we moved from Pennsylvania to Tennessee in 1995 and lived it an efficiency apartment for a few months. we rented furniture and stored our belongings but I had to decide what I needed to take for the kitchen, bath, etc. We've always enjoyed all these adventures but it is a lot of work, mentally and physically.

After being a long-time reader (inspired by Preppy Empty Nester), I finally did my first Hodgepodge post today! I was too late to add to the linky, but excited to participate with you and all the fun bloggers out there. Thank you for doing this, Joyce!
