Stereotyping The Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! It's been raining buckets here, but I guess we need it. I'm hoping this means we'll have a pretty long weekend. If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post. Be sure to leave a comment for the blogger linking before you because comments make the world go round. Here we go-
1. What color is prominent in your home? Are you glad about that or wishing you could cover it up or remove it?

I'm in a new house, so not thinking about any re-painting or changes in appliance, trim, flooring colors just yet. My house is filled with a lot of neutrals (creams, browns, tans) and splashes of color (blues, dark red, orange). I am really happy with all of that.

2. What's something you'll NEVER do again?

Well never say never, BUT...building another house from the ground up is highly unlikely.

3. Tell us a couple of ways you fit the stereotypes associated with your gender, and a couple of ways you don't.

I guess the ways I fit would be those associated with being a wife and mother. That was something I always wanted, and they're roles I very much enjoy. They satisfy on a level that is beyond anything I received from my career.  I know not all women want to have children, or even marry, but I think the stereotype assumes we all do. I also enjoy cooking, crafts, and homemaking in general which all fall under the heading of female stereotype.

I enjoy watching sports which I think goes against type. I'm also not helpless and am pretty independent.

4. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. Have you ever owned a motorcycle? Ever ridden a motorcycle? If the opportunity presented itself would you hop on a motorcycle and go for a ride?

Does a short ride around the block on my cousin's motorcycle 40+ years ago count? I've never owned a motorcycle, and would prefer hubs not own one either. He doesn't. I can definitely see the appeal, but the dangers associated with riding outweigh the thrill for me. Nobody's surprised are they? Maybe if we lived out west where there are lots of wide open spaces, but otherwise I'll pass.

5. If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and listen to?

Read-My Utmost for His Highest and Anne of Green Gables-what I aspire to be and a lot of who I am

Watch-HGTV -I'm all about home and hearth these days.

Listen To-70's music is my jam.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

So we've joined a cult. Ha! Not really, but sort of. It's the Big Green Egg cult and if you own one you know what I mean. When you purchase the grill a whole world of accessories opens up to you, and I've been told each and every one is essential to creating the perfect BBQ. ahem. If you get the special pan you need the special rack. If you get the special rack you need the special spatula. And on it goes...

Tell me, who here owns a Big Green Egg? What's your favorite thing is to prepare on the grill? What's your #1 must-have Green Egg accessory? Any grilling secrets we should know?

  1. I think we are in the same color range but we are different in stereotype women ! My husband loves to eat barbecue but don't make it. I think he is the only man who never does barbecues but he cooks !

  2. I have a lot of neutrals in my home too. I've always been interested in buying a Big Green Egg but the money is definitely not in the budget right now.

  3. Thought-provoking questions there on #s 3 and 5. I enjoyed reading your answers. I almost mentioned Anne of Green Gables on my #5. Wish I had!

And I had the same thought -- Never say never! But I'm pretty sure it's accurate in the case of roller coasters.

  4. I'd never even heard of the big green egg. Grilling is a mystery to me. I feel pretty much the same way about motorcycles. I hope you get a good weekend. We've had rainy for quite a few days and the 10 day doesn't look much better.

  5. 70's music is definitely the best. Even my boys will say so! No big green egg here!
Motorcycles are only as safe as the operators. It makes me shudder to see someone in a tank top & flip flops on a motorcycle...I can just see their skin being ripped off if the bike is dropped.

  6. A neighbor has the Big Green Egg and had a lot of good things to say about it when we saw him grilling one evening. We don't have one - we just have an old-fashioned charcoal grill. It sounds like the neutral color palette of your home works nice so your personal items can stand out. Hope you have a great week!

  7. I've never heard of the big green egg. We have 3 grills, but Ed still prefers grilling on the "antique" one that used to belong to my aunt. It's green, made of aluminum, and is over 40 years old, which is unheard of for a grill.

I think we feel the same way about motorcycles :)

Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge. Stay dry!

  8. Our color schemes are similar. You so perfectly and succinctly answered your question about reading, watching and listening! And our son has the Green Egg, but as to what he does with it besides grill the most amazing meals, I'm not aware of all the accessories it takes to do it!

  9. Good answer for #3. We don't even have a gas grill - sold it at the garage sale. I've heard of the green egg, though, and hope your hubs has fun with it!

  10. I didn't even think about the fact that I enjoy watching sports! That is definitely NOT stereotypical of women! You'll have to report back on the Green Egg and how it cooked up. I've seen this at the hardware store but have wondered if it is worth the cost.

  11. I know nothing about the big green egg. However, we do need a grill, so tell me about this green egg and is it better that a regular gas grill. Inquiring minds want to know.

  12. Great questions this week, been interesting to read the answers. AND, the Big Green Egg is so popular around here but we went with Weber instead. The Egg is soooooo heavy! And, pretty sure I can definitely say we will never build another house as well but I sure did enjoy the process of building this one. Happy Wednesday!

  13. My new house has a neutral base too and the furniture we picked yesterday is also fairly neutral, but I will bring in turquoise, blues and greens for some Florida fun. Totally different feel than Michigan. My new bar stools are a blue-green color so that's pretty bold for this Northern girl!

  14. I forgot about sports...I am a huge football fan..
Before my Daughter's Daughter was born, she said if she had a little girl she wasn't wearing pink or ruffles, etc. I remember going shopping when granddaughter was around 3 or 4, she'd do just like we adult women: move clothes around on the rack, comparing, etc. She wanted her nails painted, and loved handbags and jewelry....I once her my daughter say: I thought girly girls were made, didn't know the came that way....granddaughter is very girly...but she can rotate her tires and change her oil so guess she doesn't fit the mold either....we've always grilled....but we don't have to have all the bells and whistles...our grill before this one was a curbside find which we replaced burners and rack on....this one belonged to my Son in law's neighbor.

  15. Anne of Green Gables is my MIL's favorite book and I've seen it mentioned on a few blogs lately. Maybe I should read it myself.

  16. After Amber and Dylan lived in those two front bedrooms for 6 1/2 years, one was a TV room, they both needed painting and carpet. Amber is a neat freak but not about things that are not hers. So now that those are painted, carpeting coming, Mark will continue to paint the rest of the rooms and I would like some warm colors. I like music from the 70's and 80's. I also watch a few of the shows Mark tapes on HGTV, such great ideas! Don't own the big green egg yet. Steaks are our favorite!

  17. Well I am feeling very "out of it" as I have never even heard of the Big Green Egg. But it does sound interesting! lol. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  18. I've never even heard of the Big Green Egg. I will have to ask the Mister about it. Have you seen the show "Anne with an E"? Everyone is raving about it. Hope you have a great week.

  19. Well it sounds like our weather has flipped, you get our rain and we get your sun. Thanks! We have not joined the Green Egg culture. Thankfully. I can just imagine the accessories that 'we'd' just HAVE TO HAVE. ha.

  20. No green egg here. We don't do much outdoor grilling either. Good questions again Joyce. Thanks.

  21. We don't own a big green egg but we live in a place where people take their barbecue very seriously. In fact, many people out here own grills that cost many times more than what their house costs. It is not unusual out here to hear that someone dropped $300K on a grill. These grills have all the bells and whistles. Many are mounted on trailers that are somewhat like a patio on wheels. These guys enter competitions all over the state. And, you can get shot out here for saying you barbecued something if you did not put sauce or some type of rub on it. Barbecue is a very slow cooking process.

I hope he enjoys his grill. It can be very addictive. I have known people to grill anything that moves, and some that don't, like vegetables.

  22. Haha about the cult. We have a few friends who joined that cult. We opted for the Traeger cult ourselves. Traveling again so I couldn't join in this week. Enjoyed reading your answers.

  23. I hope that you get many years of enjoyment from that grill.

I couldn't agree more about being a wife and mother. There's nothing that can beat that feeling. :)

We used to watch HGTV all the time. I loved all of those decorating and DIY shows. Lots of fun!

    Have a blessed week. :)

  24. I have seen those funny looking green grills. Is there a big difference in the way it cooks he food? This was a fun hodgepodge with great questions...thanks, as always for hosting and have a fabulous Memorial Day weekend!

  25. I'm right there with you on the house thing. Ours is new as well so it's not time to re-do any of it. I also am not sure I'd want to do it again....although all new stuff is pretty nice. :)

  26. Thank you for your kind support and prayers for my beloved SWMBO. Even though we are about to reach a benchmark 100 days, we still have a very long way to go before she gets her stamina back and is able to resume some semblance of our normal life pre cancer. We are hopeful and continue to soldier on with hope and unshakable faith in our God. Thank you for the Hodgepodge. It is a nice weekly diversion from the toils of life.
I don't know about the Egg Grill thing. I think I'll stick with my basic gas grill. Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
