I reprogrammed the TV. Not sure I could do it again without the tech walking me through the process, but still I learned I could do it.
2. Have you ever had a now or never moment? Elaborate.
Never is a big word. I guess in the sense it's used here, more as an expression than a firm never-ever-ever, then my answer would be yes. There are things I've done that required a leap of faith, and that's what I associate with this saying. As in- go for it because this particular opportunity might not roll around again.
Moving overseas, various professional roles I've filled as well as some volunteer assignments...I'm sure there's more but I'm blanking.
3. April 25th is National Telephone Day. Do you still have a land line or have you gone mobile only? When you receive a text message do you respond immediately? Last time you turned your phone off? In two or three sentences share with us a story/memory/incident from your childhood (or something current if that's too hard) where the telephone is featured.
We are strictly mobile in this house, but I do miss the landline. I don't like carrying my phone around when I'm in the house.
I think in general I respond to text messages in a timely fashion, but that may not always be the second they're received. I do try to always text hubs back right away because if I don't he'll call me and say, 'Did you get my text?' "You didn't reply".
The last time my phone was turned off was during Sunday morning church.
An incident featuring the phone? Hmmm...well there was that time when my brother was babysitting my sister and I and we accidentally started a smallish fire in the kitchen. This was back in the day when your phone was attached to the wall, but had a ridiculously long chord allowing you to make it somewhat 'mobile'. My brother had the phone cord stretched all the way from the kitchen into the den and was happily chatting away while my sister and I put butter on the stove to melt and promptly went back to our game upstairs. A large amount of panic ensued but thankfully we can all laugh about it now.
Well most of us can laugh about it now. My mom I'm not so sure.
4. Close call, at someone's beck and call, call the shots, call a meeting, call it quits, call in sick, call on the carpet, wake up call...which call have you 'heard' recently? Explain.
I'm going with close call. We had a small plumbing issue in our storage room on Monday and fortunately I happened to go in there and see it before it got out of hand. We don't go in that room every day so it could have become a large headache. Thankfully just a close call.
5. What subject do you wish you'd paid more attention to in school?
French. I wish I were fluent. And I did pay attention, but I didn't practice enough.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Who else thinks Princess Kate is adorable? They looked so cute bringing their new baby home. And with her in heels no less! I so admire her poise and patience with the media .
I agree with you about Princess Kate. Can you just imagine looking that great (let alone feeling good enough to walk out of the hospital) just hours after giving birth? She seems like she would be such a nice person...and "real" too! I enjoyed your answers today! Have a great rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteI love Princess Kate, Prince William and their little family. Kate seems like the real deal and I am pleased that she makes William so happy. William and Harry had a rough life after Princess Diana died and I have hoped for their happiness in their adult life. Just a few more weeks until the wedding! I plan to be up, drink tea and eat scones with clotted cream and jam, while I watch the wedding! You?
ReplyDeleteLook at you...reprogramming the TV. Not sure I could do that at all.. Loved the phone story and so glad you all didn’t burn the house down. lol
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great day!
Being mobile, I can't always remember where I have last used my phone so the searching begins. Daughters seem to always know where their phone is :)
ReplyDeleteI adore Princess Kate!
Fun questions and answers today. Loved reading your childhood incident concerning the phone and the melting butter. We never had one of those long phone cords but many times I wished we did!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting and have a splendid day!
I'm not sure I completely understand your stove incident, but we've had our share of close calls in the kitchen too. And yes, Kate always seems comfortable with the royal watchers, which is surely a good thing. Thanks for the Hodgepodge, Joyce.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Joyce, Princess Kate is darling! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI don't really miss my landline. On the other hand, I'm like you in that I don't carry my phone around the house from room to room. I don't usually have pockets so it gets left behind. This situation drives my kids crazy of course because they can't always reach me immediately. Either I don't hear the phone because I'm too far away or I don't get to it before the voice mail kicks in.
ReplyDeleteJo,
ReplyDeleteWe had a long phone cord on our kitchen phone so I could reach the stove if needed or barely stretch it all the way to the edge of the living room. Actually, doing that really stretched it out of shape and we had to replace it on more than one occasion. :) I leave the electronics to DH to do but I can do most things as he can. It just takes me a bit longer since I'm not as well versed at it as him. I never had any foreign languages in school. I think that requires being able to hear the pronunciation well which limits me since I have problems in that area. I have trouble replicating unfamiliar English words and often stumble over saying them. Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun, my friend. Have a good day!
I feel like a lot of folks would look that great if they had Kate's village to help with raising kids. As John Dickerson said, it takes a village to raise a monarchy. I set the stove on fire once when I was around 9 years old. It was terrifying for sure and oh those long phone cords. Unwinding those things required standing up on a chair. I studied Spanish but my girls studied French and they are teaching their littles to speak it not that anyone is fluent in any of it around here. I do good to get my English right. Ha!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think Kate is beautiful! As for heels, I would surely fumble if I were carrying a baby and wearing high heels :)
ReplyDeleteWe had one of those long cord phones but opted for the shorter cord after the long one kept getting tangled up.
Thank you for faithfully leading the Hodgepodge every week.
So glad your plumbing issue didn't get out of hand, like the melted butter on the stove apparently did :) Fun memories, huh?!
ReplyDeleteOn the day she went home, I thought Princess Kate looked remarkable for a mother of three, who'd just given birth hours earlier! Trust me, I didn't look anywhere near that good on the day of my third birth!!!
Kathy (Reflections)
I'm stunned that Kate was out of the hospital so soon. I was in there - getting spoiled mind you - for a full week the first time and for 5 days for the second. No midnight feeding, breakfast in bed and clean sheets every day. I though hard and long about leaving. Now they come home in a few hours. Oh my!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the TV. Do you know that I have a post it note on our stove saying "Have you turned the burner off" because butter and popcorn just causes issues in our house. I would love to learn French. Back in the day you didn't have to take a language if your were not going on to college. I wish that wasn't a fact back then. I'm so in love with the Royal Family. I just can't get enough. Yes Princess Kate is awesome. I follow them on Facebook. Can't wait for the wedding.
ReplyDeleteThis was a good Hodgepodge day on your blog. Yes to everything Princess Kate; is she not the epitome of royalty. Or at least my concept. We didn't have a foreign language taught in our school, but understanding the local's Cajun dialect should have been required learning.
ReplyDeleteYes, Kate is just beautiful but dressed like a fashion diva in heels hours after giving birth is a bit much. Bless her heart, guess she just put her smile on and waved her hand and had her servants and maids awaiting her when she got to the palace. :o))
ReplyDeleteGlad the plumbing issue was a close call because they are the WORST!
Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce! My phone answer included a stretched out kitchen phone cord too! LOL Those were the days. William and Kate are adorable. I couldn't help but think of Diana when I saw the photo of them bringing the baby home. William will make a good King. I sure hope they skip over his dad...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Kate and William! Also, did you notice he held her hand? Don't see that much when they are out and about. That was the sweetest moment for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Hodgepodge. I couldn't wear heels and carry a newborn, not when mine were new and definitely not now! lol
ReplyDeleteI, too, was taken by the picture of Princess Kate. She carries herself with an incredible amount of grace.

ReplyDeleteMy first reaction to question 5 was 'history' but then I remembered Latin. And French. And English. On my. Maybe I just need to go back to school.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. I hope to be back on the Hodgepodge soon. Life is weird right now. :)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from the thawing out Granite State. Programming the TV? The next thing you know you'll be driving and docking the boat! Way to go! Yeah, I'm pretty sure your mom still doesn't think the stove fire was, or ever will be, funny. I kind of laughed at your Hubs calling to see if his text went through. Perhaps he should have called in the first place. It's still funny, at least to me. Enjoy your week and thanks for another Hodgepodge.
