Welcome to another week in The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-
2. Break the ice, on thin ice, ice skating, tip of the iceberg, ice cold...which icy idiom applies to your life right now? Explain.
Ice cold. The weather was abysmal today, pouring rain, blowing wind, gray foggy skies, and cold temps. Cold for South Carolina anyway.
3. What's a project you've been putting off? Will you get to it this month? This year?
I need to tackle some of the boxes in my attic and will get to at least some of them this month. Definitely this year.
4. Of the fruits that grow well in winter which ones have you tried? Which is your favorite?
pomegranates, clementines, persimmons, passion fruit, pears, grapefruit, lemons, pomelos, kumquats
I don't think I've ever tried a pomelo, but the rest I've tasted and enjoyed. I like all fruit so it's hard to choose a favorite. Of the fruits listed we probably consume more clementines than any of the others, and they're definitely one of my favorites. I also love anything lemon so that one ranks right up there too.
5. What do you think it means to be courageous?
My book club just finished reading and discussing The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah, and there was a quote in there about courage I liked...
'Courage is fear you ignore. It wasn't the fear that mattered in life. It was the choices you made when you were afraid. You were brave because of your fear, not in spite of it."
I think courage is doing what's right in spite of the threat of danger, difficulty or, in 2024, cancellation.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
What day is it? I feel like I'm still in 2023, my Christmas decorations are still mostly up (coming down this week though!), and I'm not mentally organized for a new year. We had a fabulous new years weekend with a houseful of friends here, then we had three of our grandchildren in the house for a fun few days, the tile replaced in our master shower, a car repair to organize, and whew! I think I'm almost ready to call it January 1st. Happy new year!

Well it sounds like you had a busy start to the new year - no wonder your Christmas stuff is still up lol. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how distracted and unorganized I am and yet, I DO have a lot of things slated on the calendar this year so in that way, I am ahead.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have had a busy January so far. We have too. I can't believe how fast the January calendar is filling up!
ReplyDeleteBusy January and it is just the beginning for you but sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteGood grief, I'm befuzzled just reading about your Jan thus far. Hopefully you can get on with life now and start on your attic project. We're bracing for some really cold temps next week, like 14 degrees. Too cold for this gal! Blessings abundant in 2024!
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting on changing your morning routine. Burr on your weather. I wish I just had some boxes to tackle. I have the whole house. I've been putting lemon in my water for years. I like that quote on courage. You had so much going on but it sounds like it was a fun time. My Christmas will hopefully be down in the next few days. Enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteWe just put away the tree ornaments and tree this week. Sounds like a fun and full New Year's weekend and what fun to have 3 of your Grands around for a few days, too. I'm just getting to know what day of the week it is. Doing what's right in spite of danger resonates with my thoughts for that question. We are heading into a huge drop in our temps to the minus's...yikes! Thank you for the hodgepodge, Joyce.
ReplyDeleteWhat day is it? I had to write the date for the first time yesterday and of course, I wrote 2023. Had to cross it out and write 2024. I still have Christmas debris to deal with, so this weekend it is. Thanks, as always, for hosting the Hodgepodge. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMy decorations are still up inside also. However, not because I've been too busy, but just that I'm still enjoying them. My plans are to take them down this week too. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWe had a fabulous beach vacation to start the new year, and then I got sick when we got home. So I'm feeling like it's January 1st about now, not the 10th! We are having chilly weather here in Houston too.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great quote about courage! I've had several people to recommend Kristin Hannah, and may have to act on it.
ReplyDeleteGreat questions this week . My decorations are finally all down...well, mostly..there are few straggling things I need to deal with. I enjoyed your answers. I'm going to add that book by Kristin Hannah to my TBR list. I am planning to read one of hers for my 12 books by 12 friends this year. It's The Great Alone.
ReplyDeleteThank you for another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce! I'm feeling a bit wonky about what day it is and if it's really a new year. Time is crazy. Good golly.
ReplyDeleteWhen the weather is cold, I feel more tired. I did go to my church's senior gathering today and fun. We all bring snacks, coffee and water is provided. We are all retired and enjoy this monthly fellowship. When I got home, I packed more ornaments. I am in So. CA and it has been cold for us! Good luck on your attic project!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a busy and fun start to the New Year! My decorations came down last weekend, and this week I started working full time so I went from Christmas season to the daily grind just like that! LOL
ReplyDeleteI like most fruits too but I think my favorite from the list is probably clementines; in fact I just had one for breakfast this morning. We're having a cold snap this week too so I'm trying to stay warm indoors.
