My Highlight Reel

In honor of the big game I thought I'd be all NFL- like and give you my weekend highlight reel. It was pretty quiet here ...we were supposed to be snowed in on Saturday but not a flake fell. Not a single solitary flake. None. The hubs flew to South Carolina Friday evening to buy a car for Daughter 2. Let's take a moment and look at this from another angle...

hubs got to spend the weekend with the daughters
daughter2 took possession of her very first car
hubs and daughters 1 and 2 had a lovely meal in an Indian restaurant

and me?
I was home in my pajamas cleaning and organizing my pantry, kitchen cabinets, refrigerator and freezer.
Something is very very wrong with that picture.

Back to my highlight reel...husband got lucky and was put on an earlier flight Sunday so he arrived home before the pre-game pre-game pre-game show. I made yummy pulled pork bbq and peanut butter heath bar cookies so it felt superbowlish even though it was just the two of us in our pjs on the couch rooting for the Colts who did not win btw.

Who thought there were too many commercials in the Superbowl?
Who was not impressed with said commercials?
Who did not see the big deal about the Tim Tebow ad?
Who thought Carrie Underwood belted out the National Anthem without so much as a hiccup?
Who thought she was completely in touch with her Country Western Singer self in that outfit?
Who felt proud to see the troops standing at attention on a military base half a world away?
Who thought if they heard the words Dorito and Bud Light one more time they might scream?
Who wished they were in warm and sunny Miami?
Who thought Pete and Roger were showing their age just a wee bit?
Who thought the halftime light show and lasers were very cool?
Who thought it was ironic that a British band who doesn't really love American football was playing the halftime show at the Superbowl?
Who thought the drummer looked young enough to be Pete's grandson?
Who has a husband who wants to play the drums?
Who still loves the song Teenage Wasteland?
Who wanted to yell do-over when the Saints pulled off that crazy onside kick?
Who wanted to cry when Peyton threw that interception?
Who appreciated the tone and the polite comments made by the Colts coach after the game?
Who thought Drew Brees standing teary eyed holding his positively adorable baby boy was one of the sweetest moments on tv in recent memory?
Who is sorry to say goodbye to the NFL for the season?
Who hates the fact that she has to go to the dentist today?

oh wait...
that'll be next weeks reel.

  2. There were too many commercials (but the Google one did make me sigh with delight), Peyton still has my heart even though they lost, I was impressed with their coach after the game, Drew Brees and his son was definitely the sweetest thing I've seen on tv in a long time (including the precious aforementioned Google commercial). So I don't feel too bad about my Colts losing, since the Saints never won a superbowl before. Now I'm sad that the NFL season is over, but I'm hoping against hope that next year it's the Colts and the Cowboys (my other favorite team, and my dad's all time favorite team) in the superbowl. That way, whoever wins, I'm happy. Superhappy.

Sorry you have to go to the dentist (which reminds me I need to make an appointment).

  3. GREAT post! Sadly, I did not pay enough attention to the Superbowl to answer any of your questions!

  4. All alone and you cleaned? I'm a practical girl too. ;) What a great memory your girls will have of a get-a-way weekend with dad... and a car as a souvenir. Can't beat that. ;)

Doritos and Bud Light were over-kill! I agree... Well, except the do-over and crying during the interception. I think that's when I was jumping up and down cheering. Sorry. ;) I was happy for my step-dad. He has been a devout fan for MANY years.

  6. love it! My exact list of highlights too.

Now, why didn't you go with the Hubs to get the car? The Dad's get all the glory.

Good luck at the Tooth Man visit. Ugh.

  9. I'm with Kim... and Her Coffee, Who thinks they could've at least been wearing boxer briefs or boxers on all those commercials and

Who thinks those people on the Casual Friday commercial (whatever it was for?) were incredibly brave/stupid to bare all those love handles for a few bucks?

  10. Love your highlight reel and I agree with most!! I was also wondering why you didn't get to go too...I loved watching Drew Brees with his son. I am oh so tainted about the lifestyles of professional athletes, so I just hope he truly appreciates his family.

  11. Enjoyed talking to you on Sunday morning via FB. Hope you enjoyed your weekend at home alone. I love weekends like that to be able to get things done. I loved seeing Brees holding his precious little boy. What a Kodak moment! Enjoy your week. Hope your dentist appointment went well. Love & blessings from NC!

  12. Enjoyed your reel, you made me chuckle. I have a confession I did not watch the Superbowl. Am I unamerican? I definitely am probably in the minority. I think everyone watched it. Oh well, just not my thing.

Just wanted you to know I received the book and your care package today. Thank you so much for all the extras! I love the little notepad, I was just thinking I needed to pick up a new one mine is almost gone. Anyway Thanks again, and it has been fun to get to know you through blogging.

    until next time... nel

  13. Who didn't watch the game? That would be me! Sorry I can't answer any of the NFL questions.

Good luck at the dentist next week. I don't mind going to the dentist. I've known him and his staff for so long, they feel like family to me.
