Wednesday Hodgepodge Foolishness...Vol 20

Welcome to this week's edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge...so glad you joined the party! Add your link to the bottom of my post and enjoy hopping around to meet the neighbors. Here are my answers today ~

1. April rolls in at the end of this week and in celebration of that infamous date (April 1) answer this question-what is something foolish you've done?

I bet if I asked my kids for an example there would be plenty to choose from but here's the first thing that popped into my head...

Back when hubs and I were newlyweds I went to bed one evening around 11 and woke up to get ready for work as I normally would. When I got up I felt so tired and nauseous I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make it to work that day. I hated to call in sick though so I persevered, got in the shower and tried to imagine what had happened overnite to cause me to feel so rotten. I had this back and forth in my head about what to do and in the end I decided I just felt too bad to go to work, that what I needed to do was go back to bed. So that's what I did. As I crawled back into the bed I glanced at the clock. It was 12:35 am.

Whaaat???
12:35??

No wonder I felt horrible...I'd only had an hour's sleep. Why had I thought it was morning? Hubs rolled over and said, "What are you doing taking a shower in the middle of the night?" He thought it was hilarious and I definitely felt like an idiot foolish.

2. With April comes Easter and that classic edible treat known as Peeps...so tell me...what's your favorite way to eat/fix chicken? That's wasn't what you were expecting was it? I 'fooled' you. teehee

A few years ago I might have said fried but I never fry chicken anymore and to be honest it doesn't really appeal to me like it once did. My favorite way to have chicken is on the bbq...I'm not too particular about the sauce or marinade, I just love the flavor of grilled chicken.

I do confess to loving the Chick-fil-a sandwich which technically is fried chicken but, since the nearest Chick-fil-a is a two hour drive that is a very rare treat.

3. What's the best museum you've ever visited? Or your favorite? Or the one you'd most like to visit?

This is hard...I love museums and have been in hundreds. My favorites are probably The Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square and The Tate Modern in London. I'm sure it has something to do with the city in which they are set.

4. You know what they say about April showers....what's your preference-a bath or a shower?

I must have a hot shower every morning in order to face the day. I do love baths too though, and a long hot soak in the tub is one of my favorite ways to relax.

5. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"-fact or fiction? Why?

Speaking as someone who has spent a lot of time living away from people I love and being married to a spouse who travels, I'd say this is mostly true. Being separated from someone I love causes me to think about them throughout the day, to miss them, and to really look forward to time spent together. It's easy to take the people around us for granted when we're with them 24/7...I think a little 'missing' is good for a relationship on occasion.

6. What's your favorite product made/grown in your home state/province?

Can I say no-self service gasoline? Truly. It might be my favorite thing about living in NJ...you are not allowed to pump your own gas.

If I must pick an actual product I'm going with Jersey corn...you will not find sweeter corn anywhere.

7. What is going on in the world today that affects you the most?

I guess one of the biggies in this season of life is the economic climate. I think of my daughter in the job market and another soon entering and I pray they are able to find jobs which allow them to support themselves and are also a good fit for their skills and temperaments. And as hubs and I inch nearer and nearer to retirement and are trying to make sensible decisions about where to live, invest, spend our time/money, well let's just say it's challenging.

Taxes.
We pay too many.
And our government spends too much.
That affects us.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I can't end a post on a depressing note like taxes so here you go...this is sure to make you smile!

  5. I never knew that about NJ gas. What a great perk! I'm with you on being separated from the hubs and taking people we live with 24/7 for granted. Absence does make the heart grow fonder.

  9. I miss having someone else pump my gas (all self-serve here), so I do the next best thing ... have DH get gas for my van. ha! Seriously, Oregon is the same way ... no self-serve there either.

I did get a chuckle out of your answer to #1.

  12. Saw the twin video on the Today Show-that was so cute. Know what you mean by taking a shower-gotta have one to get going. I never knew that about NJ gas!!

  13. You're lucky that Chick Fil A is so far away! Mine is only 10 mins an I indulge all too often. The first time I ate Chick Fil A, I was about 8 months pregnant and very hungry--that food tasted divine! Guess it cemented in my brain that CFA is good for what ails ya.

    I'm #17!! That's my favorite number!

  14. I totally forgot about the gas when I answered my questions. Yes, that would have to be my favorite thing about living in NJ!!!

  15. Love the twin video. My twins used to do that too. They have a language of their own and trying to figure it out is something else. Even when ours learned to speak English, they still would revert to their own language with each other as toddlers. Sometimes Prince would say something to Hubby or me in their little language and we'd have to get Princess to interpret for us. They really kept us on our toes!

  16. We had a similar shower story, but it was our boys. They were probably 6 and 8, and showered each morning before school. They came to me in our room, and asked if it was a school day. I, in my half awake state, said yes. Several minutes later, I bolted awake, ran downstairs, and found them showered and getting dressed. It was 2 am.
    Thanks for hosting the party!

  17. I've been resisting watching the baby video -- it's been all over Facebook lately. But once you posted it, I had to check it out. Very, very funny! I wish I knew what they were saying (they obviously understand each other quite well).

    Happy Wednesday, Joyce!

  19. Just minutes after I read your blog they showed that video on my local news station...ha ha. Love chicken on the grill and love Iowa sweet corn...

  20. I share your concerns about the economy, my children finding good jobs, and retirement...it's a lot to deal with, huh???

I hate to pump gas, and will pay more at our "Gooseneck Gas" because they will pump it for me.

I loved the video, by the way. Wouldn't you love to know what the little guys are saying :)

  21. Even tho I don't live in NJ, I have a self imposed "not allowed to pump gas" law...my self serve gas pumper is my hubby! LOL

  25. First, sorry for double linking my answers. I somehow managed to delete my first post so I had to start over again. :-/

I love that video of the twins, it came across my FB newsfeed yesterday and I must have watched it 100 times. My friends and I are convinced that the one on the left stole the one on the right's other sock and is trying to act like he didn't.

Chick-Fil-A, lets just say that I am lucky that the closest one is more than 5 hours away. When we lived in GA it was a struggle not to eat there every time I passed.

  26. I almost forgot to link myself! OMG that video is adorable, I am so glad you shared it. I won't have much time in London, maybe just one day, but I would love to visit those museums. I love that you can't pump your own gas. I use to love that. I hated when that change happened. I love to be waited on. Yes the economics of our country is horrible. Our daughter & SIL have been with us for a year now! Thanks for the questions.

  27. I'm just curious why you can't pump your own gas? I've never heard of that...very interesting. And question #2 most certainly surprised me.

  28. Thanks for hosting this each week...the economy is certainly affecting most of us..and retirement decisions are way too close for me....I didn't think there were any full service gasoline stations left..I remember when I had to bite the bullet and do it myself...

  30. Love #1, how funny! I thought you were going to say that your Hubby has reset your clock to cause the mixup.

Always amazed at how you come up with questions week in and week out. Hats off to you!

  31. I must confess I have never had chick-fil-a but I think there are a few in town. Hmm

Amen to not pumping your own gas. We also cannot do it here in Oregon. I would rather pay more than do it myself.

  32. Loved your story. Too funny. Those little boys in the video are so cute. I sure would love to know what they are saying to each other. Whatever it was they sure are having fun.
