Growing Older With The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger linking before you. Comments keep the Hodgepodge rollin' right along. Here we go-

1. What's one thing you learned at the ripe old age of whatever age you are now?

Does Zoom count? I'd never heard of it before this year.

2. I read here a list of foods that can help you look younger-

extra virgin olive oil, green tea, fatty fish, dark chocolate, vegetables, flaxseeds, pomegranates, avocados, tomatoes, spices, bone broth

How many of the foods listed have you tried? How many do you eat regularly? Your favorite from the list?

I've tried them all and regularly use extra virgin olive oil, eat fatty fish (salmon), dark chocolate, vegetables, avocados, tomatoes, and spices.  I like pomegranates but wouldn't say they're a staple here. If I could only have one thing on the list I'd choose vegetables.

3. Something you miss from the 'good old days'? When were the good old days anyway?

Common courtesy, respect, and humor.

When did they occur? I'm not sure I can give precise dates, but feel pretty certain it was sometime prior to the invention of the iphone.

4. What are two or three of the most rewarding things to be found in growing older?

There are many, but I'd say one of the best things about growing older is knowing who you are and being comfortable with that. Interacting with my adult children is pretty great too.

Also see next question.

5. What's your favorite part of your life right now?

Did you really need to ask?

Grandparenting is not overrated.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

As I was turning off the light about 10:30 pm Tuesday night I suddenly remembered, that while I wrote the Hodgepodge questions, I never answered them. Bother. You'd think after almost 400 episodes answering would be automatic. Chalk it up to 2020 and/or turning a year older this week.

On the bright side I did not overthink this one. Happy Wednesday!

  1. Good morning, Joyce. It's great to be back to the 'Podge as my girls call it. I was the first one here, too. That's a first. Your grandchildren are positively darling. They are lucky to have a wonderful Grandmother like you. Enjoy your week.

  2. Your grandsons are so CUTE!! Zooming our way through meetings and catching up with friends...Donna, Susan, and Susie and I zoom up some and it is FUN!

  3. Great answers! I haven’t hodgepodged in a while and definitely overthought it this week. I should have said this new vocabulary for #1 - social distancing, self-isolate, donning, doffing, and ROM (restriction of movement).

  4. They are so precious! I can't wait to have grands of my own. Happy Birthday to you Joyce! :)

  5. Those boys are soooo cute! BTW, I'm having challenges linking. When I "click here" it says "Server Error in '/' Application." (Will try a little later!)

  6. Common courtesy and respect are surely missing in our society today. I think you are right about the good ole days being before the invention of the iPhone. Your grandsons are so adorable!

  7. We are thinking the same about this phase of life and what our favorite part of it is. I do believe grandchildren are our reward for making it to this point! Yours are a couple of cutie-patooties!

  8. My goodness, how those boys have grown. Just so cute! Great answers and it always amazes me how all of us interpret them so differently. That's part of the HP fun! It's always fun to join in!

  9. Happy Birthday. Celebrate your special day!
    Good answers today.
Have a great Wednesday my friend.

  10. I've learned Zoom too, never thought I'd use such a thing!

    Have a wonderful birthday!
    God bless you,

  11. Oh, those boys!! Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce!!

  12. Zoom is a great answer. I still haven't done it! I love those food items too but sure they have made me look any younger. "Common courtesy, respect, and humor" is a excellent answer for #3. I agree, interacting with our children is wonderful. I can't even imagine hanging with my parents like that. Love the photos of your grandsons. I'm a huge Toy Story fan and I hope James likes them someday. He's into Mickey right now!

  13. Yes, I'm with you on stating that you can't overate grandparenting. What a wonderful blessing that is. I did a lot of overthinking myself for the answers this week. Zoom...who knew...
    Happy Birthday week to you!!

  14. I agree that the good ole days would be pre-iphone. I hope you have a fabulous birthday!

  15. Hi Joyce,
I like that answer of "prior to the iphone being invented." I think you are on to something. I always tell my husband, that I am not so sure all this social media is the best thing for our world.
I am reading The Huntress. You are right, can not put it down.
Happy Birthday and thank you for sharing your grandkids with us.

  16. Yur grands are darling, and I just agree this time of life is the best!!! Just wish mine didnt live so far away!

  17. Happy Birthday to you this week! I agree that grandchildren are not overrated. Ever!
And yes, I miss the common politeness of earlier years.

  18. I knew you would love grandparenting. I do wish for your sake and those sweet boys, that you were closer, but that time will come. This was a fun post this week. Thank you for all you do to keep us together.

  19. Your Littles are so darn cute! Can't you just imagine a girl version? ;)

    1. Yes I can : ) Boys are pretty great too though, and so much fun!

  20. You are so right. I think a lot of what used to be common courtesy vanished with the prevalence of the iPhone. That, and COVID have taken us to places from which I don't think we will be able to reverse.

Thanks for the Hodgepodge questions. Happy Birthday!!!!!

  21. Great answers! I had never heard of zoom either... and thankfully have only had to use it once. We love our veggies here too!
