Coming Clean In The Hodgepodge

Welcome to another edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. It's the neighborly thing to do in this mid-week little blog hop.

From this Side of the Pond
1. Your favorite cleaning product? Do you clean your own house or hire out? Most disliked household chore? What one chore do you not mind so much?

100 meaningless extra credit points to anyone who figured out what inspired this question...

I can't say I have a favorite cleaning product. Maybe my hubs? Ha! He is really helpful and there are a few tasks he regularly takes care of around the house which I very much appreciate. He vacuums and I clean bathrooms. He takes care of the wood floors and windows and I cook, meal plan, dust, and handle the laundry.

Housekeeping is definitely a shared job here, and we clean our own because we can. I've had a housekeeper in the past and that was nice too, but right now we're home, it's just the two of us, and we're neat.

My most disliked chore is ironing. Hubs likes to iron so I rarely have to take this one on. I don't mind washing dishes. I have a dishwasher, but still wash a lot of things by hand.

 2. It's Canned Food you use a lot of canned goods? What are the three canned items you purchase most often? Last thing you made using a canned ingredient?

I don't use a lot of canned food items but the three I purchase most often are probably Del Monte Blue Lake fresh cut whole green beans (they must be whole and I can eat them right out of the can), RO-TEL, and kidney/black beans for chilli.

Last thing I made using a canned ingredient? Baked ziti...I made my own sauce but used some canned tomatoes.

 3. Can of worms, anything can happen, can you imagine?, as best I can, kick the can down the road, more than one can take, no can do, not if I can help it...choose an idiom and tell us how you currently relate.

Nothing particular relates but I was reminded of something from childhood that feels like it might fit. When I was a child I spent a week or more at summer camp. Each week had a theme and one week was always Anything Can Happen Week.  The year 2020 2021 feels a little bit like that week.

4.The last Tuesday in February is National Spa Day. Are you someone who enjoys a day at the spa? Last time you visited a spa? Do you have a favorite spa? Are salons open for business in your area? Have you made changes to your hair and nail routine since Corona hit? In what way?

I do enjoy a day at the spa, but sadly have not visited one since Corona struck. I especially love the spa at the Harbor Beach Marriott in Ft. Lauderdale but obviously don't get there regularly.

Salons are open here with safety measures in place. My hair salon is small and I've been several times since March of last year. When I'm there it's just me and the stylist so I feel fine about that. I haven't visited a nail salon in the past year because that felt a bit more risky in terms of exposure. Plus I can live with bare nails more easily than I can gray roots. Just sayin'.

Also,  for the record I'm not going another whole summer without a pedicure.

 5. Believe it or not this is the last Hodgepodge of the month. In one sentence sum up your February.

February? I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that it's 2021. was cold, gray, and wet but also short so no complaints here.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

I know some of you have followed my daughter1's blog for a few years. She's left it quiet for a bit (211 days, not that I'm counting), but is back at it this week with a brand new post. Pop over and say hi if you have the time. The link is here-Sincerely-Shannon

  1. Joyce,

I imagine the inspiration for first question is related to spring cleaning. The only thing I do different with seasonal changes would be removing of the additional blankets on our bed to wash before storing during the warmer months. Another chore along this line would be to switch our wardrobes from cooler to warmer weather attire. I really can't wait to get into a place with more storage like tons of closets and a full basement. That would be wonderful! Did I earn those extra meaningless bonus points? :D You mentioned not being able to live with gray roots. I attempted several times over the years to color my hair to disguise the glitter but never able to get the shading right, not to mention at home coloring doesn't dye the problem areas as I hoped. At first I was frustrated but then I stepped back from the mirror realizing there's something pretty special about the glitter nestled in my hair. So, I don't worry about this aspect of growing older any more. Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun. Have a funtastic day!

  2. Anything Can true. I just ask God to take my hand as I walk out my door each day. I read your daughter's blog...Your grandsons are so adorable and growing up so fast. Tommy looks like his dad and the younger one looks like his Mama (just my opinion and you know what that is worth or will buy you!). Praying their next move will be close to you guys and not so far away.

  3. I know it is different from place to place but I have actually felt very safe - maybe safest public place - in the nail salon. You have to have an appointment and they leave a chair between each client which is at least six feet. All of the employees have on masks - some double. I wear a double mask. The salon is fairly large so it doesn't feel as if anyone is too close. They have hand sanitizer everywhere. I've felt more ill-at-ease at my hair salon because everyone does not follow the guidelines well. Thank you for coming up with these questions every single week. Your prompts allow me to stop and jot down a few thoughts each week!

  4. Hi Joyce:
I enjoyed your questions and answers.
I don't like dusting or vacuuming but don't mind
    the rest of the chores.
    Have a great day.

  5. I said the same for spaghetti sauce; buy those canned tomatoes and make it your own!

  6. Not that I need to say this but your Hubs is a "keeper" for sure. My goodness, I'm not sure my husband would even know how to turn on our vacuum cleaner or know where the cleaning supplies are kept. Guess I've done a real poor job of training him. :o)) And, after almost 50 years, I don't see that happening. Going now to check out Shannon's blog.

  7. Maybe it's the whole idea of Spring Cleaning and wanting Spring to hurry up and brighten our days that brought up cleaning products or maybe not. Too much usage of bleach wipes? I forgot about ironing. Ironing doesn't happen very often here. I'm the only one in the salon when I get my hair taken care of, too. I go to a gal who has a salon next to her home on a country road in the country. I'm going to click over to Shannon's blog now and see what's new. Thank you for the hodgepodge!

  8. I love that you share household chores. Mark's stepdad, back in the 90's introduced us to Ro-tel. We always have it in the pantry. Back then you could not buy it in Illinois and he shipped us a case from Texas. We always have black beans, they are my favorite. Also Costco now carries Del Monte green beans and corn. I can't wait to get a pedicure and I hope to get a haircut soon. Have a wonderful day Joyce. Thanks for the questions.

  9. I wash a lot of dishes by hand too and don't mind it. I run the dishwasher every night but am washing things by hand all day. I would love your salon, nice and small. I am going to have to look for those green beans. Thanks for another great Hodgepodge :)

  10. I saw Shannon's post yesterday and was so happy to catch up with her and to see the pictures of the boys. Tommy has grown up in 211 days! Wow! I enjoyed your Hodgepodge, Joyce. I'll be back in a couple of weeks. xo

  11. We share chores too. My hubby is so good about doing anything around the house! I am using the dishwasher more than I ever have in the past....probably because I got a new one and it is quieter. I still like to hand wash some and missed that when we've been under a boil order....not quite the same to boil the water before washing as turning on the faucet. It surely makes me thankful for running water.

Sorry I entered twice, my internet glitched.

  12. As for the question #1, you are probably thinking about spring cleaning?

  13. I will stop on by.

  14. Yes, 2021 has not been really great in the wake of 2020. But at least February is nearly over.

I'll go visit Shannon's blog to see what she's up to.
