Flurries Of Hodgepodge Fun

Welcome to another week in The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, and then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-

1. It's National Popcorn Day-my favorite! Are you a fan? Sweet or salty? A good or great movie you've seen recently (at home or in a theater, either one)?

Popcorn is one of my favorite foods. When hubs traveled a lot I'd sometimes eat popcorn for dinner. I like mine with just salt but we occasionally will add butter too. Last Christmas hubs bought me a big popcorn popper which we keep in the pool room. We love it...

...we’re not the only ones lol.

A good movie I've seen recently? Well it will definitely be something I've watched at home because I couldn't tell you the last time I was in a theatre. We watched an older movie recently called The November Man with Pierce Brosnan and we both thought that was good. I think it came out in 2014.

2. What's something you didn't realize was going to take so much of your time as an adult?

meal planning, laundry, emptying the dishwasher

3. Your favorite yellow something?

The sun, roses, and lemon anything, including a big ol' bowl of lemons sitting on the kitchen counter

4. Why do you write?

Because all these words in my head have to go somewhere. Writing helps me process life and reminds me to notice the little things. I enjoy reading back on what I've written and seeing God's hand in the details of my life.

5. Share a favorite memory involving snow.

My girls know I'm going to say the blizzard of '96. It was probably a highlight of their childhood-ha! We were living in a sweet little cul-de-sac in Maryland at the time, and while we did get snow now and then this particular year we had an honest to goodness blizzard.

School was closed for more than a week and the snowplow driver pushed all the cul-de sac snow into a ginormous pile, a small mountain of sorts. The kids spent the whole week sledding down that hill and the adults hung out by a bonfire we made in the middle of the street. Hubs and I had someone finishing our basement at the time, and he'd left a bunch of metal pieces we used as a base so as not to set the street on fire.  We brought our lawn chairs and one neighbor made us all gluhwein, and we had a mid-winter party right there in the middle of the court. It was great fun! I think someone from the news or the newspaper came out and did a little story too. Good times!

And somewhere I have pictures but I cannot put my hands on them right now.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Winter skies y'all.

  1. I didn't even think about the blizzard of '96! Probably because it's not a favorite memory. It was downright uncomfortable. :)
    Love the popcorn maker!!!

  2. What a delightful memory and it evidently is one your whole family treasures. There is something about the sunsets in your part of the country. Our friends who live on top of a mountain in North GA, have the most spectacular sunsets almost every day. I love that yours are reflected in the water so its a double blessing.

  3. Completely understand your thought on meal planning. Your jarred my memory on the blizzard of 96. We were without electricity for a week (not fun for me) but I do remember my girls having a blast...the little things making snow cream, sledding, lights by candles, a real fire in the fireplace, and all of us sleeping in sleeping bags cuddled up and cozy.

  4. I will say, popcorn renders a specific memory of my childhood: my mom worked retail at night and would get home after I went to bed. Sometimes I'd wake up to the sound and smell of her making popcorn the old fashioned way in a pan.

  5. Well that does sound like an awesome snow memory! If you ever come across that photo you'll need to share. I'm in charge of the kitchen at our church and one of those popcorn poppers sits in one of the corners. I'm a fan of all your yellow things, too, and I'm nodding my head about why you write answer. Happy Wednesday to you!

  6. The Blizzard of '96 sounds most memorable and fun! You must be a serious lover of popcorn with equipment like that. The best equipment I ever had was a Whirly-gig. After twenty years or so, it was so banged up, I tossed it out. That was a mistake.

Happy January and thank you for the questions.

  7. The bonfire in the neighborhood sounds like great fun in the middle of being snowed in!

  8. I love your popcorn machine. Yes lemons look awesome in a bowl on the counter. We have lemon tree. School being closed for a week is definitely a lot of snow. Sounds like you took great advantage of all the snow. Beautiful Winter sky across the lake.

  9. Joyce,

When I was in junior high school, they had one of those big old popcorn poppers like you'd find at a football stadium. They'd sell popcorn at lunch. It was the job of the Student Council to do this and at one point I was a part of it. I loved popping the corn. It smelled like heaven! :) What fun memories. I enjoyed reading through all of your responses. Thanks for hosting and while I borrowed your questions, I'm not going to link up because I find it difficult right now to make rounds. ;)

  10. That is such a fun blizzard memory! Unforgettable, I'd say!

I so agree with your answer as to why you write.

A bowl of lemons ... yes.

And your random is anything but random. What a gorgeous winter sky. We have seen some pretty skies up here lately, but nothing like yours.

  11. That sky is just beautiful. A blizzard not so much but sounds like you made it fun. You must seriously love popcorn lol.

  12. I am not a big popcorn fan but will eat sweet/chocolate covered popcorn. Mostly I just get annoyed with the pieces that get stuck in between my teeth. That bonfire sounds like so much fun!

  13. Your lake/sky pictures are always breathtaking! We lived in Alexandria, VA, in 1989 and had two blizzards a week apart. That is what decided us to move to Florida! No more snow for me - ever again!! I love your snow story and can only imagine the joy and laughter from the kiddos! Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge! xo

  14. What a gorgeous picture, looks like a postcard (is there such a thing anymore?). I need a popcorn machine for sure but I just buy it popped and of course, not near as good but it works once I add a little more salt. Thanks for always coming up with great questions.

  15. I never experienced a blizzard not even a snowstorm. We have little snow here in the last years not even enough for a snowman !
