Here's the thing no one tells you about having grandchildren. They come with hugs and kisses and words and germs. Have mercy, the germs! I feel like a first year teacher when I'm around them (iykyk). I still remember having the most wicked case of strep throat ever my first year in the public schools.
I do think you build up your immune system being around kids, and if that's truly the case mine should be good for the remainder of the year.
My daughter said, 'you're not going to blog about this are you mom?' Of course not.
Oh my word it has been a week.
I'll spare you the gruesome details but let's just say one half of the team had a fever-cough-sinus thing and the other half had what I feel certain was norovirus. Sadly I was in the second camp.
Actually by the weekend most of us were fine, but we kept it low key and just did more movie viewing and less eating than we normally would.
We survived and I have the pictures to prove it. Sort of. Getting five littles to all look the same direction at the same time, whilst also feeling crummy, is not without it's challenges, but we persevered. I plan to have a cousin crew photo every year wearing matchy matchys. They've been told.
Meanwhile...in Arkansas...
Hubs missed out on all the fun here because he was duck hunting with friends. I know it's not everyone's thing, but rest assured we will cook and eat what's 'caught'.
Honestly I'm glad hubs wasn't home last week, because we need someone operating at full capacity.
He always says he thinks I'd enjoy this, but I'm not keen on the idea of cold, dark, early, and wet. Especially the cold part.
I do enjoy the photos though.
And that was our weekend. Dead ducks...
... and lame ducks.
Linking this post today with Holly and Sarah and their Hello Monday blog hop.
Don't worry...I used lots of hand sanitizer.
Oh yes, I always joke little kids are little germ factories (and usually the germs strike at the worst possible times too!). Glad everyone is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteOh you poor things. Glad you're all feeling a bit better. Yep getting littles ones to pose is a nightmare but you did a good job.
ReplyDeleteGrandkids should come with a warning label - "I will give you a sickness of some kind or another." Glad y'all are on the mend.
ReplyDeleteOh man! I know what you mean. I also lost all my immunities while being masked. The first year we took masks off at school I was sick every other month. No joke! I hope this week is better for all of you!
ReplyDeleteDead ducks and lame ducks- that's a good one!! So sorry many of you were sick. That does not sound fun but at least you got to see lots of cute faces...
ReplyDeleteOh yes- kids and germs- I am sorry- wishing you a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteHaving twin granddaughters now I get it about the germs. My goodness they are so sweet in those photos. Feel better!
ReplyDeleteSorry everyone was sick! I thought we may have had that norovirus but I am pretty sure it was just food poisoning. Thankfully. That was comes and goes a lot quicker! Hope you stay healthy going forward this cold season.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear sickness hit your house. Wow that is a lot of duck. Do you eat them?
ReplyDeleteYes, we freeze it so it's not eaten all at once.
DeleteI giggled so much at your words, "dead ducks and lame ducks" - that really sums up your last week! I'm so sorry you all had to deal with that! The downside of all those wonderful snuggles! Some day (?) it will make for a memory you will all laugh about, right?
ReplyDeleteLOVE the shirts the littles have! I'm sure it was a very tiring week; hopefully everyone is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope everyone is feeling better now. I remember when my girls were little and would catch every bug and bring all the germs home, yuck! It looks like your husband has been having great fun. I am more of an indoor person so it wouldn't be my thing.
ReplyDeleteI am always thrilled to see people enjoying outdoor sports, but my Brittany wants to know... "Where are the dogs???"
ReplyDeleteThis is the time of year for getting sick. I just recovered from a sinus thing, and possibly COVID. The germs are out there, and they will find us! The little ones just bring them in in a cute disguise...
They only used the dogs part of the time. There was too much ice for them in some spots.
DeleteOh mercy me. Glad you are at the end of it now. Love love love the cousin shirts and letting it be known that would be a yearly event. What fun it will be for them to see those through the years photos when they are older. Happy new week and I hope it goes well.
ReplyDeleteHa, oh my, dear Joyce, I laughed at "dead ducks and lame ducks" ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is on the mend.
Please share a favorite duck recipe when you have time, we will be raising ducks this season for butcher.
Carla
I hope you all are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping everyone is feeling better by now! Look at all that game. My nephew duck hunts and has a lab trained to go pull what he "catches" out of the water. I love watching her work!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the pictures are adorable and how fun to do it every year going forward!! I am so so sorry about all the sickness but glad to read that you all got through it. The duck hunting seems to have been quite successful for all. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that you got sick. You have a houseful of people and of course the kids do carry things. James gets sick and then sometimes Adam and Gabby get it. I love the photos of the girls and the kids. Glad you are feeling better. So glad the hubs got to go hunting. Looks like he had a fabulous time. Enjoy the meals.
ReplyDeleteWell, they are good pictures of the cousin crew despite the illness! There are some bad bugs that have been going around. My daughter had Flu A while home at the end of December and then some kind of stomach flu a few weeks later. :(
ReplyDeleteI would say it's always fun to have everyone together, but maybe not this time! Teachers do have the best immunity and I bet yours will get better spending so much time with the littles now. I hope everyone is on the mend!
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about you have been sick, I hope you are starting to feel better.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Well, that is still a precious photo and love those cousin shirts!
ReplyDeleteCute cousin pictures! Yes you definitely need a matching shirt picture every year! Sorry for the sickness.
ReplyDeleteYes! Having four small children and being a lower elementary teacher means I'm sure I'm exposed to more germs than some hospital workers! And yet we always manage to get the MOST sick after our family reunion when we have 20+ children all together. We basically just block out the week after family reunion as sick week. I am so sorry you went through all of that! I hope everyone is feeling much better!
