Wednesday Hodgepodgety Podgety Vol 30

Can you believe its week 30? Time flies when you're having fun! Here are my answers to this week's questions...link your own Hodgepodge post below, after you've read mine of course.

1. Do you and your family enjoy camping? What do you enjoy the most/like the least about family camping? When was the last time you camped?

We do like to camp but it has been a few years since our last family camping trip. I have camped with scouts in the meantime but that isn't the same. What do I like the most?

Technology free family togetherness, being outdoors, sitting around a campfire, hubby's amazing cobbler cooked in a Dutch oven over the coals, my whole family, including the pup, all snuggled together in sleeping bags, and a starry starry night. What do I like the least? The cleanup once we're home. I think the last time we camped was a weekend trip to Rocky Gap Park in Cumberland Maryland..it was autumn and gorgeous.

2. Did you attend a summer camp as a kid? Is that a happy or not so happy memory?

I did go to summer camp in Northeast Maryland. I then spent several years working as a camp counselor at that same camp. Is it a happy memory? Some of the happiest memories of my childhood are tied to summer camp...I wrote about them here.

3. Over the course of your life, what have you probably spent more time pondering than anything else?

What is it I'm supposed to be doing...what is my purpose?

4. Which of the seven natural wonders of the world would you most like to see? There are many lists of wonders but this is the standard natural wonder list-Mount Everest, The Great Barrier Reef, The Grand Canyon, Victoria Falls, The Harbor of Rio de Janerio, Paricutan Volcano and The Northern Lights.

I've never been to the Grand Canyon so that's my first choice. Really though I'd be happy to see any/all of the natural wonders of the world. Perhaps that needs to go on my bucket list.

5. What was your first real job?

Babysitting. I guess some people wouldn't call that a real job but my first regular job was babysitting. I sat for the same little girl for a couple of hours every afternoon after school while her parents were at work. My next real job was in the dining room/kitchen of a nursing home. If we're talking post college profession I worked as a speech pathologist in collegetown. I feel fortunate to say I've never had a job I didn't like.

6. Lemonade or sweet tea...which do you prefer on a hot summer day?

Sweet tea with a lot of lemon. Lately we've been making a drink called The Arnold Palmer which is my new favorite-half tea, half lemonade and super delicious.

7. What is something that always brings a smile to your face?

Seeing my girls faces as they step into the arrival terminal here (NJ) or as I exit the arrival terminal there (SC).

8. Insert your own random thought here-

I love the lyrics to this song and I think it goes along with my answer to #3...

"...you are more than the choices that you've made,
you are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
you are more than the problems you create,
you've been remade..."

  1. That is such a great song. The message is so applicable to people of all ages. I think we have a hard time letting go of our mistakes. I am so grateful that God looks beyond our foibles and loves us as we are.

  3. With all the traveling you have done, I'm surprised that you haven't seen all of the wonders! So get out there and visit them all and take lots of pictures so we all can see them. I forgot about babysitting, well I didn't do it very often so I guess it would not have counted. Great set of questions.

  4. Camping for me would be staying at a hotel without Wifi!
Love the half and half Arnold P they also have a lite version that is really good. Beautiful song choice today!

    Have a great day!

  6. Camping is a great family fun experience, isn't it? Just the other day, I was wondering what the grandchildren would think about camping...

Thanks for another set of great questions :)

  7. I would love to see all the natural wonders of the world. Going to try the new drink; it sounds good. So it is just lemonade and tea-half of each--right????
    Have a great day!

  8. That song really touches my heart as I can so easily define myself by all my regrets and mistakes.

Great set of questions again this week! Thanks for hosting this for us!

  9. Good questions and answers again this week. I'm like LynnMarie. I'm surprised you haven't see all the wonders too. The things you mentioned about liking camp, I get what you're saying, but I'd still rather be in a hotel room and let someone else do the work. Although my parents used to have a cabin in North Carolina and we spent a lot of time there when the girls were growing up, but we still had bathrooms and showers and slept inside in beds. A girls just gotta have her comforts. hahaha

  10. My parents have been drinking Arnold Palmers for years. There's an ESPN commercial that shows Arnold himself making one at the drink station at a restaurant. It's cute. And they are tasty!

  12. We have a few of the same answers, and a scarily-similar wording (I wrote my post yesterday and didn't steal your wording, I promise!) We like Arnold Palmers, too.

Oh, and that song makes me cry every time . Did you happen to notice the typo in the lyrics on that first screen (the one showing)?

  13. Its a special moment (in the terminal) when you first see that love one waiting. In December I flew to Houston to meet my Honey Bear...I'm sure we were both smiling when we spotted each other there just past security.
    Thanks for hosting each week.

  14. The camping days were fun. Love your photo. Our cabin in Mammoth Lakes is very rustic, we read and play games. I wish I had memories of a summer camp. They sell that drink now in the stores. Awesome song. Thanks for the questions and hosting! Enjoy the rest of your week.

  15. I'm jumping in today! Having visited the Grand Canyon last summer I can say without hesitation that it is defiantly awe inspiring! I highly recommned it for anyones bucket list!

Thinking about all my past camping experiences has made me want to drag all our gear out and make a plan, but I am not sure how well it would be received. Food for thought though!

    Great questions this week!

  18. Sounds like some great camping adventures. I love all those things about camping too. Well except now, I do not like sleeping on the ground. I'll take the camper, thank you.

That's a great song! I've been hearing it a lot. It just speaks volumes.

Thanks for sharing, but especially for hosting.

    Blessings, SusanD

  20. The book "Purpose Driven Life" helped me a lot with that answer you had (why we are here). I¨m sure you´ve heard of it, if not you should check that out.
Perfect lyrics in that song you chose.

  21. I've been drinking half tea/half lemonade since I was a kid- it's so yummy! Funny though that I only do it that way in the summer...the rest of the time I just put a lot of lemon in my tea.

I guess I should have put babysitting as my first job too but I really didn't think of it as a job--I loved babysitting! It was so much fun!

  22. I love the song it was terrific and I may use it too! I love camping with the family and with my husband this fall we are planning a family reunion in a cabin at a state park in PA. I can't wait.

  23. I'm always so impressed that you have a fabulous family photo for every occasion...Your pictures must be oober organized! WOW!

  24. I've spent a lot of time on #3, too.

  25. Yes, Bobbi is right, you do have a picture for every occasion. I really should pull out more photos than I do. They are very organized and really not that hard to go through, but I don't do it all that often.

Oh, yes, seeing our children after being apart for a while is always a "smile bringer."

    Wishing you a happy day!

  26. Ya know ~ I'm not much for travel and I've always kinda felt like seeing a picture of something is almost as good as seeing it live but I would have to say there is nothing like standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon. I don't think it's possible to grasp the sheer size of it until your standing in front of it. It's worth the trip.

  27. I love that song! It's on my ipod and the words really ring true. I'm liking the questions to this weeks hodgepodge but then again I always like em, I'm just slow on my horse today to getting to answering them!
Your family photos are very sweet, thanks for sharing them (all of them, throughout the entire blog, not just the one in this post).
    :-)

  29. The only people who don't think that babysitting is a real job are those who've never taken care of a baby for an entire day!

  30. We had a weird experience where we got to see the Northern Lights and it was amazing!
