A Hodgepodge of Fall Favorites

Welcome to Fall y'all! And welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond

1. It's fall y'all! Officially that is and in the northern hemisphere only, so if you're visiting from down under happy spring! Does it feel like fall where you live? Does it look like fall aka are the leaves beginning to change? What is your favorite fall color? Scent? Flavor?

Today it actually does feel a little like fall, mostly because it's been drizzling all morning and isn't 93 degrees outside. The leaves have not really begun to change, but the light has and that also makes the sky look like fall. We are not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway and nearby mountains so I'm sure we'll see color there before long.

My favorite fall color-burnt orange, scent-cinammon  flavor-cranberry

2. What's something you're not?

Mechanically inclined?

3. Share a favorite quote related to fall and tell us why it's a favorite.

"The earth has music for those who listen." William Shakespeare

Maybe not strictly in Autumn, but I do think especially in Autumn.

4. Besides Thanksgiving, what's your favorite fall meal?

I love all the soups, stews, and chili on the menu this time of year, but my favorite is probably homemade vegetable beef. I especially love Paula Deen's recipe found here. I do not add all the salts she lists, but adjust to our personal taste. Definitely make it with the short ribs because they take the flavor to another level.

5. Share a favorite photo you took last fall?

Obviously I didn't take this picture, but I do love it. Hubs and I had taken the little red car for a spin up the nearby mountain road and it was glorious. We asked someone at the lookout to take our picture, November 2020.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I know this was my random thought last week, but y'all!...our pup has made it into the top twenty thanks to the persistent voting of friends and strangers so I'm sharing again in case you want to get in on the fun. The link for voting is here-Garden and Gun and voting is free. Voting runs until October 8th, and you can vote once an hour.

  4. Joyce,

I don't see a link of Paula Deen's vegetable beef soup recipe. Did you list it? If so, then it might be my browser. We have a bit drizzle over us but the temps are cooler and have been this week. It's suppose to dip into the low 50s tonight and then the following two nights upper 40s. That's fall weather for sure! I like your quote and I agree the nature's music in the fall seems more noted. I really love this time of the year. Incidentally, yesterday I posed a question regarding the Covid vaccines and if you or anyone would care to chime in then I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun, my dear. Happy first day of fall!

  5. Soup is my favorite in the fall too and I made chili yesterday in honor of Fall. I’m not that mechanically inclined either, and my sister-in-law Susan has come to my rescue many times. She has become my “Fred”. Fred was the man in Texas who helped me out with those kind of needs.

  7. Your dog is beautiful and I voted for him again. Chili was my favorite, but soups would be a close second. Have a great day Joyce and thanks for the questions again!!

  8. Oh, my, seeing you two with the "little red car".......Hubby just bought a 2009 convertible Mustang, a California edition and he is like a kid with a new toy. I'm trying to just let him enjoy his indulgence but "old" men in sports cars just look a bit funny to me. I won't tell him that though. We're taking it off for a little day trip tomorrow with the top down. Have mercy, hope I survive.

  9. First of all, I voted for Hunley and will try to remember to do so several more times. He is a doll. What a fabulous photo, too. Good luck to him.

Is your little red car an MG or a Triumph? I have had both and think it looks like something I had once upon a time. So cute. And a great photo of you kids. My PC has a convertible Mustang that we don't enjoy nearly enough. Maybe this weekend we can take it for a spin now that the temps are more fall-like!! YAY!!

Give me all the soup!! Great answer. I think I will have to copy. Hope to have my Hodgepodge up tomorrow. I like to do a recipe blog hop in the fall where bloggers share favorite soup recipes and we ask readers to hop from one blog to the other to check out our recipes. Would you be interested in joining if I do it this year? Please let me know = you can email me at mommyhon333@hotmail.com.
