Going Bananas For The Hodgepodge

Hello Hodgepodgers! Here we are again with another edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions, add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. What's a skill you think everyone should have?

There are more than a few skills I think everyone should have so narrowing it down to just one is hard. Critical thinking, cooking, swimming, communication...each important in it's own way.

2. Do you have a special place or organizational system for gift wrapping? Do you still buy 'real' cards to send for birthdays, anniversaries, get-well, etc?

I sort of have a system, but it's not great. I actually keep my wrapping paper, ribbons, bags, etc in the attic. We have a walk up attic over our garage and I'm up and down the stairs there nearly every day for one thing or another. I need to better organize what I've got and also part with some gift bags that, let's be honest, I'm not going to reuse. Why are they so hard to part with???

I do still buy real cards. I love sending and receiving although will admit the cost has skyrocketed. I know that puts many people off, and I think the cost of stamps is going up too. Still l enjoy choosing cards that feel like they fit the recipient.

3. It's National Banana Day...are you a fan? What's your favorite thing to make with bananas or, if you're not a cook, your favorite thing to eat that contains banana?

Yes I like bananas, not too ripe and not too green either. Just right lol. I really dislike the overly ripe ones though, so they get turned in to banana bread which I love. I have a recipe that calls for coconut and has a lime glaze poured over top, which sounds a little odd, but trust me it's delish. I also love bananas in my oatmeal.

My favorite thing to eat that contains a banana is a banana. Not too ripe and not too green. Just right.

4. Do you believe in second chances? Elaborate.

Yes. I think except in rare circumstances everyone deserves a second chance.

5. What is your idea of fun?

Jumping off the dock with my grandkids, a hike to a pretty waterfall, dinner parties, cards with friends, time in the kitchen with my girls, dining al fresco, boating to a friends dock for a champagne sunset, writing, a spontaneous road trip, a full house, porch time with my people...the list goes on.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I was inspired to clean out my closet today, a task that was long overdue. Have you ever gotten three quarters of the way through a job and decided you were no longer inspired? I feel ya.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

  1. I don't think I could narrow it down to just one important life skill either as there are so many of them-- swimming, driving, money management, etc. that I just could not imagine my life without. I don't buy cards since I make them but it is an expensive hobby (well, it is for me since I am always tempted to buy new products and stamp sets and things) but I love it. However, I am awful about remember to send the actual cards out on time!

  2. For me, cleaning closets is such a chore. I don't want to finish but I always know I have to. Good for you for getting it done!!

  3. I've started seeing memes about that recently: tackling a huge cleaning project and then feeling utterly overwhelmed and dejected most of the way through. Seems like a lot of people hit that wall!

  4. Well...I'm about 1/4 into weeding and now totally put off the task. I overloaded the skill answer once I went over one I couldn't stop the list! Your banana bread topping does sound interesting. At least you are getting that very important stair exercise. We are suffering in the stair skills since we do not have any stairs here. Our last house had them. Hope the rest of your week is great!

  5. You're right, I have a whole bag of gift bags. Love what you said about cards. Yep, bananas are good. Love your ideas of fun. Well you did try on the closet, that's great. Yes, I understand where you are coming from. I have the whole house to clean out. Happy Wednesday to you too!

  6. Critical thinking, yessss! I wonder if failure/coming up short (years ago) didn't instill that life lesson right between my eyes. Yep, on the project(s). I'm still waiting for inspiration to kick in (*grin*).

  8. I still like to send cards, although they have gotten ridiculously expensive. I try to pick some up from Trader Joe's when I go.

  9. Critical thinking was my answer. Sending and receiving cards is becoming a lost art, but I still send cards.

  10. I have a hard time letting go of bag too. Some are so pretty. I have a box of bags that I need to go through. I am great at starting something and the burning out. My husband will help me today with the pile of things for give away. He has no problem letting things go!

  11. What's a skill you think everyone should have?
How to do laundry, you don’t need to know how to cook but you do need to know how to wash your clothes.
Do you have a special place or organizational system for gift wrapping? Do you still buy 'real' cards to send for birthdays, anniversaries, get-well, etc?
I rarely wrap gifts; I use gift bags or boxes. Yes, I still send real cards.
It's National Banana Day...are you a fan? What's your favourite thing to make with bananas or, if you're not a cook, your favourite thing to eat that contains banana?
I don’t cook but I do eat bananas, had banana and custard for breakie today.
Do you believe in second chances? Elaborate.
Generally speaking, depends on what the person did.
What is your idea of fun?
    Exploring museums

  12. It's funny because I like to clean and tidy things. I am finding that the older I get, the more motivation it takes for me to do it, but once I do, I'm in my happy place.
    I know, I know, weird.

  13. Thanks for another fun and thought-provoking Hodgepodge! I have some of those gift bags you mentioned and why is it so hard to toss them? I rarely wrap a gift these days. Gift bags are just too easy. I agree that an adventure to your lake would be great fun and it is on my list!! xo

  14. I regularly run out of motivation to do a job partway through. Sadly, that is often my default position - start strong and then lose interest and it's so hard to finish up.

  15. Oh, swimming is a good one. I liked your answers. I cleaned my drawers out a few weeks ago and filled a bag with things to get rid of. Now I just need to do it,

  16. Hope you got the closet finished lol. Can agree with many of your answers and I'm often making banana bread because the bananas are too far gone to eat.

  17. Ha... I feel ya too.
I enjoy sending cards too. I know many people are no longer mailing Christmas cards because of the cost, but I love receiving Christmas cards and sending Christmas cards. I am hanging on to tradition.

  18. Like you, most of the time I send read cards for the special occasions. I used to like to make my own cards, but have got away from that due to all the crafty tools needed to accomplish that. Yes, postage is terrible these days, along with the cost of the cards.
