Patiently Answering The Hodgepodge

Welcome to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered today's questions add your link at the end of my post, then leave a comment for the blogger before you. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond
1. Do you complete your own tax returns or hire out? Something you've found taxing lately?

We fill out an organizer and send it on to the professionals. To be honest I find just completing the organizer 'taxing'.

Something I've found taxing lately? Nothing springs instantly to mind. How about this...hubs is vehicle shopping and while he thoroughly enjoys the process, I find the whole thing taxing.

2. It's spring (in the northern hemisphere anyway)...would you rather spend the day hiking in the great outdoors or planting a garden? Do you/will you have a garden this year?

Hiking.

I could definitely enjoy planting a garden if I had the right spot for one here. And if we were home for more than three days in a row to manage it.  I like to hike and there are lots of nice trails nearby that we still need to explore so I'm going with hiking.

3. Do you consider yourself a patient person? In what sort of situation is patience not desirable? Are you happy with the degree of patience you have in your daily life? If not, what can you do to cultivate more of this quality in your life?

I would say I'm a very patient person, although sadly not as patient as I was when I was younger. I asked hubs if he thinks I'm patient and he said "definitely".  Impatience rarely makes a situation better and in general winds everyone up in an unhelpful way.

When is impatience a good thing? Well, the opposite of what I said a minute ago could also be true. Impatience can sometimes motivate me to get things done that need doing.

Mostly though, in my mind, patience is a positive trait, and impatience negative.

4. Do you like the flavor cinnamon? If so what's your favorite something made with cinnamon?

I love cinnamon, probably one of my favorite flavors. I make a sour cream coffee cake that's really more like a pound cake and it's definitely one of my favorite cinnamon foods. In the non-food category, I like a cinnamon scented candle in the kitchen.

5. Learn by watching or learn by doing? Elaborate.

Depends what we're learning, but mostly I'm a learn by doing person.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Whatcha reading? I just finished Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano for our neighborhood book club happening today (Tuesday). I thought it was just okay, but I know people who loved it. I thought the story held promise but the character development was weak.

I'm currently reading The Secret Life of Sunflowers by Marta Molnar, historical fiction based on the true story of Johanna Bonger, Vincent van Gogh's sister-in-law. Enjoying it so far, but I've only just started this one.

I recently finished Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, which is also historical fiction. Based on a real event, a plague that struck the English village of Eyam in the mid-1600s, the tale follows the story of a young woman named Anna. A really interesting plot line, but I have to say one of the weirdest endings to a book ever.

I'm also reading Are We There Yet ?: My Journey From A Messed Up to Meaningful Life by the comedian Jeff Allen. I heard him interviewed on a podcast and am enjoying now reading his story in book form.

If you're reading something great I want to know! Happy Wednesday everyone!

  3. I've always found the whole tax filing process taxing for sure. it always called for a celebration afterwards. Patience is a virtue as they say. Nice that your hubby recognizes your patience. Deciding on a new car is not in my comfort zone and then waiting through the back and forth process at the dealership is way out of my patience zone. :) Hope the rest of your week is lovely!

  4. Yes, car shopping is definitely taxing. That's great that you like to hike. I wish I could still do that. I like your answers on being patient/impatient. Your sour cream coffee cake sounds delicious. Good for you doing all that reading. I just haven't been a reader but I really want to start. Hope you are having a wonderful day.

  6. I just finished A Wild and Heavenly Place and really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about the Washington (state) territory in the late 1800's.

  9. I get so stressed out filling out the tax organizer too; but I do help the older boys file and fill out their taxes as well so I tend to do a bit of both (and find the whole thing so stressful!). Car trouble has been taxing this week-- especially since I'm leaving town Friday morning and NEED a car. I'm just hoping and praying they can get it done in time; meanwhile I'm working on a plan B and C just in case...

I love most anything with cinnamon!!

  10. Car shopping... yes, I find that taxing as well and hope I don't have to do it for at least a few more years. Thanks for another fun Hodgepodge, Joyce! I'm not reading anything worth mentioning right now. I've always been an avid reader but have lost the vibe these fast few months. It will come back. Happy week!

  11. Do you complete your own tax returns or hire out? Something you've found taxing lately.

I personal have never had to do a tax return, Tim does his own. What I find taxing is dealing with my body.

It's spring (in the northern hemisphere anyway)...would you rather spend the day hiking in the great outdoors or planting a garden? Do you/will you have a garden this year? Flowers, vegetables, or a bit of both?

Me and gardening do not mix.
Do you consider yourself a patient person? In what sort of situation is patience not desirable? Are you happy with the degree of patience you have in your daily life? If not, what can you do to cultivate more of this quality in your life?
I am overall a pretty patient person.
Do you like the flavour cinnamon? If so what's your favourite something made with cinnamon?
The only time I have cinnamon I on donuts.
Learn by watching or learn by doing? Elaborate
A bit of both, one needs to first listen before doing.
Insert your own random thought here.
My father taught me that everyone needs some money of their own, no one should have to ask for money to buy a drink while out shopping, we all should have our own bank account and cash in our wallet or purse.

  12. I never liked walking, even as a child, running yes but not slowly walking with my parents. Fortunately Rick was the same he would have taken his car to go to bed. Now I am forced to walk each day at least half an hour ! The will is there, but it not possible each day because of the bad weather !

  14. No tax returns for us although we have had a very taxing time with the tax office over Child Tax Credit payments we received for our kids going back to 2007! I'm usually a patient person but that whole saga had me tearing my hair out. I'd like to find an in-person book club locally.
