Weekend happiness...courtesy of The Palmetto State

Weekends go by so fast, don't they? We woke up early Saturday like everyday because apparently when you hit mid-life your body clock really kicks in and says, "Hey, you're getting older...best not waste time sleeping." What is up with that??? On the bright side, the humidity is not 800% at 7 am so we took the MG out for a ride and then decided to stop for breakfast. Of course this meant by 10 am it kinda felt like the day was half over...next thing you know we'll be eating dinner at 4.
Saturday afternoon I went to a bridal shower and while I was out hubs met friends to watch the US-Ghana football match which of course we won't discuss. And we for sure will not be discussing the England-Germany match and Fifa referees. Back to the shower....it was lovely...a luncheon held in a nearby winery (who knew there were so many wineries in North Jersey??) and it was a surprise for the bride which is always fun. Her bridesmaids will be wearing navy blue in the wedding so the bridesmaids all wore blue dresses to the shower and the bride's mom brought a white dress for her to wear which made for really cute shower pictures.
You know, I'm thinking of starting a new tradition. I think when you hit the 25 year married mark someone should throw you a shower. Because there is nothing like a bridal shower with its shiny new blenders and thick soft towels to make you realize just how worn out things become after many years of married life...hmmm....there's an analogy in there somewhere and I didn't even mention the bridesmaids and their tiny waists and perfect skin. Anyway, don't you think it would be great to get new linens and cookware and counter top appliances right about now?
Of course my favorite day of the weekend was Sunday. Because at 10:25 am on Sunday morning I was greeted by this...
Need I say more?

  3. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. I liked your idea of a 25 year shower...or maybe a 28 year shower since I missed the 25 year mark. Plus what a great way to spend Sunday! (My boys are gone...C will be back on the 13th.)

  6. Joyce,

I can't think of a nicer surprise that your two amazing girls.

I do agree with you that a bridal shower for a married couple is in order. Wouldn't that be great. Instead of those silver anniversary gifts we should be able to register for practical items instead that we could truly use.

  7. Oh yes . . . a mid-life, mid-marriage shower is a good idea. However, I'm thinking that when the kids move out into their own apartments they will aquire our gently used {ahem} items and I can get new! That's my plan, anyway. ha
And that whole waking up early thing... Yep, totally feel your pain. I think that's why old (er) folks call their second meal "Linner" and then have a nice sweet in the evening. What's scary for me is that I think that makes perfect sense. Oh dear.

  11. "Nuf said"....as the youngster´s would say. Totally understand.
The waking early is one of my pet peeves.
My daughter is coming home tomorrow too. It´s "winter holidays" for her. She´s staying 3 weeks. So, you know I know what you´re feeling! :)

  12. Great idea about the shower for the 25th...except since we've both gone past that, maybe we should suggest the 30th? Or the 27th? :D

  13. Your girls are the reward of your 25 yrs olf marriage. Good job. BTW, I always feel better when I remind myself that all these young brides will not look so "hot" after they too bear children - the great equalizer.

  14. Hmmm... With a header including "rise on the wings of the dawn," I figured you LOVED getting up before/at dawn...

  15. Joyce, I can't wait to hear about your trip. What a cute picture of your sweet girls. I know you enjoyed your time together. I agree about the bridal shower. I could use some new things too. I am slowly, but surely replacing some of my kitchen stuff. I bought myself a Kitchenaid mixer a few years back and I love it. How did I do without one for so long? Love & blessings from NC!
