The Luck of the Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge! If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then go say hello to your neighbor. Thanks for joining the party here on This Side of the Pond-

1. What do you think about luck?

I think for the most part we make our own. Sure there are some people who seem to be 'luckier' than others, but in all the ways that count it seems luck is preceded by hard work, perseverance, and determination.

2. Not counting your own backyard, what's a favorite green space in your town, city, or state?

This spectacular college campus-

3. How do you make life more complex than it needs to be?

I think as I've gotten older I've tried to simplify the way I approach life. We always have a lot of logistics to manage here, but we try to do so as efficiently as possible. I do think worry makes life far more complex than it needs to be, so I try hard to contain it.

4. I read here the three places you should visit with friends. They are-New York City, Hawaii, and Amsterdam (rent a bike, walk along the canal, visit one of their world class museums). I felt the need to expound on that one.  Moving on...Of the three places listed which would you most like to visit with friends? What's one place not on the list you think should be visited with friends?

A beach trip with friends is always fun, so today I'm going to say Hawaii. I lived in the NYC suburbs prior to moving south, and I've spent lots of time there with friends. I've also trekked around a fair chunk of Europe with friends, and would never turn down a trip across the pond. On the whole I think a beach trip with friends is easier than a city trip.

5.What's the last live performance you saw? On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being best) how would you rate it?

I was at a women's conference last weekend (you can read about it here) and saw both Natalie Grant and Christy Nockles perform live. I give them a 10. And Natalie Grant's version of How Great Thou Art rates at least a 12.

6. March 14th is National Potato Chip Day. Are you a fan? Your favorite flavor? Besides potato, what's your favorite chip type of snack?

I'm a fan, but I rarely buy them. As the saying goes, 'Nobody can eat just one.' Truth. My favorite flavors are Wavy Lays or Barbecued. And my favorite chip type of snack is definitely the pretzel.

7. What rule is most important in your home?

Be kind.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I don't know about y'all but I am missing that hour we lost on Sunday. Also, it was 80 degrees here today, so hello Spring!

  2. I looked at our outdoor thermometer late yesterday afternoon and it read 90. I about fell over! I sat outside just a bit and soaked it all up...next week, we're supposed to have a morning frost. UGH. In the words of Tim McGraw..."Always stay humble and kind." Great way to live, wouldn't you say? I can only imagine what it was like seeing/hearing Natalie Grant perform...love her!

  3. Oh April (above) you took the words right out of my mouth. I am all about the Tim McGraw song "Stay Humble and Kind"!

    1. Marla...it's become one of my favorite songs. I can't get the lyrics out of my head!

  4. How I wish I could have been at that women's conference with you! Hoping it comes here soon so I can try to go. It was so fun to read your post. Spring and the loss of the hour has been the death of me this week. Our spring break was last week and it was filled with rain. No kid wants to be back in class, knowing it's 88 sunny degrees outside. Have a toad-ally awesome week!

  5. Joyce, from reading your blog these past couple of years, you seem very well able to keep your life simple through everything, however, your details to events boggle my mind. Beautiful pics. Natalie Grant is definitely worthy of a 12.

It is hot here. Hoping the weather will cool down. It's too early for summer. Spring forward always makes me a little cross, but I've done much better this time.

I'm off to BSF and back later to read everybody's answers.

  8. I'm really missing that hour, too. I don't enjoy getting up in the mornings quite as much as I did before!!!

Are you enjoying the unseasonably warm winter, rather than all the snow you have been accustomed to?

Last, but not least, I'm not able to see the linky again, today, but I'll join the party the best I can.

  9. "How Great Thou Art" is one of my favorites. The beach is way easier than the city to me too. The weather here cooled off this week but the birds are chirping this morning and the skies are blue :)

  10. Hi Joyce,
I am missing that hour too. The gang of the Hodgepodge friends should take this DLS time and demand NO MORE :-) Not sure if we need to take it to the State or Federal, but I am done with this changing the clock ;-)

I answered the same for a couple of yours. I think beach time with friends is the best. :-)
Enjoy the 80 degrees, I am jealous. We have a Winter Storm Watch ... Boo Hoo ... I have awful Spring Fever!

  11. Your family rule is an unstated one in our home as well, and that would have been so much better to have shared than the potty seat rule I listed. LOL! We in the deep south are thinking we may have bypassed spring and gone straight to summer. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  12. I agree, great answer for #1. I never thought about pretzel. Something else we seldom buy anymore. Gosh I miss all those snacks! I have to admit this is the first year I'm really feeling that lost hour. I've been tired all week.

  13. Lucky you with the weather. We don't lose an hour here until the end of the month so my body clock's still working fine here. Beautiful campus.

  14. Wow 80?! It's supposed to be about 75 today where i live, it still feels cold especially in my house. It has to be about 90 something to get the downstairs to an ok temperature. Hope you're doing well & have a great week! I know the time change throws us all off doesn't it?

  15. Hi Joyce! I just suffered a Moron Moment and messed up my first attempted to link. Could you, would you please delete (my) #25 above? TY and I love your household rule. There's already so much ugliness out there, we don't need to bring it indoors!

  16. I'm still missing the hour too, and will for another week if past experience wins out. I enjoyed your answers, Joyce, and answering on my own blog! Thanks for continuing to bring us together each week!!

  19. You're not kidding on that hour! It's so dark in the morning I do not want to get out of bed and then I have a hard time going to bed because it's only been dark for about an hour! Daylight Savings Time, begone.
