Accessorizing the Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday Hodgepodge, last one in January which is a little hard to fathom but here we are. If you've answered this week's questions add your link at the end of my post, then race over to your neighbor's and leave a comment there.

1. Speaking of endings....at your wit's end, at loose ends, a dead end, burn the candle at both ends, all's well that end's well, or no end in sight...which 'end' phrase might best be applied to your life lately? Explain.

Initially I was going to say none of these apply right now, but then I remembered using the expression, 'all's well that end's well' on my blog not too long ago. It was in reference to finding something that wasn't where I thought it would be and I wrote about it here (Friday Five Ish)

2. What was a must have accessory when you were growing up? Did you own one? If so tell us what you remember about it.

There were many, but one of the first things that came to mind was a piece of 'jewelry' called a choker. Choker was a fancy, somewhat macabre name for a ribbon around your neck, and usually it had a stone or jewel or maybe beading of some sort on it. I did have one, a few I think. Also, granny boots. I got a pair in black for my thirteenth birthday and I loved them. Oh, and Dr. Scholls sandals. Everybody had a pair, kind of like in my girl's day everybody shuffled around in those Addidas slides. Well in the 1970's we clunked around in very trendy Dr. Scholls. Mine were red btw.

3. Something that made you smile yesterday?

Sunshine and the bright blue January sky.

Also a long leisurely phone chat with my Daughter2 who'd enjoyed a fun weekend away and wanted to tell me all about it.

4. January 30th is National Croissant Day. Do you like croissants? Sweet or savory? We're having chicken salad for lunch...would you rather have yours served on a croissant, a wrap, a bagel, bread, or a roll of some sort?

I love a croissant. I'll have mine at a cafe in France s'il vous plait. I like plain, chocolate, or one topped with something savory like chicken salad or ham and cheese. If I were having chicken salad for lunch today I'd love it on a croissant, but it is more likely to be served on bread or just lettuce in my kitchen.

5. Sum up your January in fifteen words or less.

Her gentle snowfall, all that sunshine, and especially her slower pace were neccessary and glorious.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

Did you make new year's resolutions? How's it going one month in? What's one thing you've resolved NOT to do in 2018?

  1. Jo,

I forgot about my choker. Yes, I did have one or two of these, too. In fact, I may have the first one DH got me from our dating years. It's a double heart choker. I wore that just about every day. I remember the Dr. Scholls being the craze. I did not own a pair, though. I did not make resolutions this year and so far my mental goals set aren't working out the best but I'll keep working on them until I get in tune with the new year. Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun!

  2. Ahh yes, the choker! Also a puka shell necklace, mood rings, and dangly peace sign earrings! Why didn't I think of those?!
What a beautiful, sunny day!!! It's looking white here :/

  4. Joyce... you were so much kinder speaking of January than I was. Btw... never heard of granny boots. How did I miss it. Enjoy your week.

  6. Your accessories sound very 70's! I remember those chokers and the other things you mentioned. What a beautiful picture of your neck of the woods and lovely, poetic description of January. I didn't really make a resolution, but at the end of every year I do pause and think about the ways I would like to do and be better in the new year.

  8. I didn't actually make New Year's resolutions, but I've set, and continue to set and refine goals for the year. They're going well and get better as I tweak the process.

  9. I never could stand wearing a choker, although I tried. There was something about it being tight around my neck that bothered me. However, I loved my granny boots!
The only resolution I made was to have more gratitude. So far, so good, on that one.

  11. How can I have forgotten my choker? I had a couple. Lol. And granny boots! And dr. Scholls. What about hot pants? Remember those? Though I think I am a few years older than you. Don’t remember when these things were in. But I did have me some hot pants and boots. Lol. Have a good day!

  12. My Dr. Scholl's were red also. And I love long phone conversations with daughters!

Your lake photo was beautiful. Oh, that sky!

I didn't make resolutions either, but set goals. So far, so good!

  13. I've been to wary of how this year will turn out to make resolutions! It's been a tough few years for me actually. But I'm really trying to get back on track with writing and such so that's sort of a resolution/goal-ish thing!

  14. Oh, I am several years older than you but I well remember those chokers. I had one on a black velvet ribbon and I wore it until the velvet was gone. What memories! Thanks for a fun HP!

  16. Hi Joyce,
My mom's best friend Vi she had the Dr. Scholl's sandals in many colors. I always loved how Vi dressed and I always wanted a pair of Dr. Scholl's sandals.

I did make a few resolutions. All are going well and on track so far.

  17. I didn't really remember actual accessories, just the main fashion trends but yes I did have a choker or two. Not resolutions but going to do an update on my 18 in 18 tomorrow.

  18. oh, yes I do remember the choker fad. I think I had several because we could make our own.
I do not make resolutions. I did consider doing a dry January but that lasted until the first weekend. ha.

  19. It has been so much fun to read the different blogger's answers to #2. The different ages is pretty evident with the particular accessories mentioned. I felt like the old woman of the group and probably am. Chokers are coming back. One of my granddaughters enjoys making different choker designs. So I hope you saved yours.

  20. I'm so late today! It was just crazy around here until now. Ok, maybe I took a short nap around 7:00. Anyway... Dr Scholl's sandals! I did have those and mine were RED, too! Don't you love it when all grown up daughters still call or come over to share their lives with you? I thought they all did that but apparently, we're in a minority with this which makes me appreciate it all the more. I wrote a post all about making New Year's resolutions well, about how and why I do not. So, I guess that means mine are going great. LOL Have a wonderful rest of your week!

  21. Hi Joyce,

The linky is not displaying for me, so I will put mine and David's link here in this comment. Blogger is trying to drive us mad, I think. :)

David's link: How to Manage Your Monkey

My link: PS Annie! at WordPress

Wasn't that snow just beautiful? Our second round was nothing but a traffic stopper, but the one before it was great. :)

One thing that I am resolved NOT to do is have anything to do with any more medical facilities this year! Hopefully it will work out that we don't.

I'm glad that your girl enjoyed your time away and wanted to share it all with you. That is so sweet. :)

    Have a blessed week!

  22. I remember granny boots. When I was in the sixth grade, every boy had to have Dingo Boots with horseshoe taps. These were guaranteed to make one slip on a waxed floor. Yes, I had some. I am glad that did not last long.

  23. You were lucky to have had such a nice January ! We here had in total 12 h of sunshine during the whole month otherwise it was always raining or drizzling. I never make a resolution list, I just let it come or not ...

  24. I couldn't remember any 'must-have' accessories, but I did have a pair of Dr. Scholl's. They were tan and if they happened to slip off your feet and your arch hit an edge, they hurt like #$%^.

  25. Good morning dear lady. Thank you for another Wednesday Hodgepodge. I must say that I did not get your "accessory" question until I read your answer. I love seeing your pictures of your lake. You and Hubs are blessed.
Your Eagles just might win the upcoming Super Bowl. Most of the sports talking heads pick the Patriots as overwhelming favorites. They are often wrong. I do not think that either team will be rolled over by the other. I predict a low scoring game, something like 17-14.
    Have a blessed week.

  26. Oh yes...the choker! I do remember those and made several by just adding pendants I already had to numerous ribbons that I bought for the purpose. I believe they were popular right about the time I was addicted to watching "Dark Shadows"...remember that show? The Gothic look was all rage...HA! My resolution this year was having no resolution...wasn't going to set myself up for failure once again! As always, thank you for hosting the Hodgepodge and have a blessed weekend!

  27. Yes, that photo says it all. How can you not smile at that view. I normally pick a word for the year. Mine this year is Determined. It's not going well at all since I've been sick most of the month. I am determined to clean out the clutter!!

  28. I remember chokers, they were everywhere and I'm sure I had one or two. They're another thing that's come back into fashion as there's lots of them in the shops at the moment.
    Love your words for January.
