Hit Me Hodgepodge One More Time

Welcome to this week's edition of The Wednesday Hodgepodge. If you've answered the questions today add your link at the end of my post. Be sure to leave a comment for your neighbor because that's what makes the Hodgepodge roll. Here we go-

From this Side of the Pond

1. What keeps you blogging?

My love of writing, my love for the written word, the space and opportunity provided to record events and memories and the everyday ordinary stuff of life. What in the world would I do with all the words in my head if I didn't blog?

2. Some people like to travel in the winter months. Do you enjoy the beach in winter? According to Southern Living the best U.S. beach towns to visit this winter are-

St Simons Island (Georgia), Hilton Head (South Carolina), Bald Head Island (North Carolina), Seaside (Florida), Bay St. Louis (Mississippi), Cape San Blas (Florida), South Padre Island (Texas), Folly Beach (South Carolina), Chincoteague (Virginia), Duck Key (Florida), Nags Head (North Carolina), and Fairhope (Alabama)

Have you been to any of the towns listed (in any season)? Which on the list appeals to you most this winter?

My love of travel in any season of the year is a well established fact on From This Side Of The Pond. I am trying to avoid air travel in the middle of this year's flu season, but many of these beach destinations are within a day's drive so could happen.  I've been to Hilton Head, Folly Beach, Duck Key, and Nags Head. Hilton Head is the only one I've visited in the winter months, and like I said I think the beach is beautiful year round. I love Duck Key and would probably opt for that one in the winter months. Or Seaside. I've never been but have heard it's lovely.

3. What's a song you're embarrassed to know all the lyrics to? Are you really embarrassed or do just think you should be?

I don't think I'm embarrassed to know any song lyrics, but I suppose it might depend on the setting in which I were asked to share. In the privacy of my own shower/car/kitchen there's no song I'm too embarrassed by to sing.

How 'bout Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One more time or The Spice Girls Wannabe? What can I say...my girls were children of the 90's, and honestly I'm not really embarrassed to know the lyrics. Actually singing the lyrics in the presence of anyone outside my immediate family would be embarrassing but that's not what the question asked.

4. When you were a kid what's something you thought would be fantastic as an adult, but now that you're an adult you realize it's not all that fantastic?

Eating what I wanted whenever I wanted.

5. Share a quote you hope will inspire you in 2018.

"If you wait for inspiration to write you're not a writer. You're a waiter." Dan Poynter

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Paying taxes and going to the dentist.
How I spent my Tuesday.
Good times!

  1. I love how you expressed why you blog. That would apply to me, too. What, indeed, would I do with all the words in my head?
Laughing over your comments on knowing Brittany Spears songs. My kids were children of the 90's, too, and I can sing along with N'SYNC and Backstreet Boys.

  2. Ahhh, the children of the 90s! I considered MmmBop but then realized I don't know ALL the words!!!
Your Tuesday sounds like another exhilarating day in middle age :)

  3. I totally get it about, 'what would I do with all those words in my head...?' :-). And most of those beaches are just a day trip away? Sigh. Thanks for the Hodgepodge, Joyce.

  4. How much alike are we? We answered a couple of questions exactly the same!!!
    I love that quote.

  5. I love the beach in the winter when the tourists are not visiting and the residents think it's too cold to be out there you get it practically to yourself. If I dared write all the words in my head the internet would shut me down. LOL Are you getting snow up there today?

  6. For the moment I am not a writer I have a lack of inspiration, but nevertheless it itches in my hand and I write nevertheless !

  7. Hope today is better than yesterday. Enjoy your week, Joyce.

  8. Yep, your quote is right on! I'd also say - being able to eat whatever I want, but thinking my metabolism would never change! Oh, what a liar my high metabolism of youth was! I miss that. And my young skin. And my perky boobies. Sigh. :-)

  9. I love that you know Briteny's song. I don't know that one at all. You so lucky to be within driving distance of some of those beaches. So true about eating what you wanted whenever you wanted!! I like your inspirational quote.

  10. Jo,

Joining you a little later than usual this morning. DH & I slept in since he decided to go into the office after the sun got up for once. We had snow last night and frigid temps (7ยบ) over night making for bad roads in our neighborhood. At least now he can see where to drive. :) I'm like you with you reasoning of why you blog. That definitely applies to me, too. The flu season is horrible. It's rather scary. I think a lot of this could be avoided if people used good hygiene and common sense. People handle surfaces then touch their faces. DUMB! People who are sick get out and share their germs. DUMB! I get some folks can't stay home but they need to exercise good judgement which most do not have today even on a good day. Staying out of tight, crowded quarters is an excellent idea. I had to laugh at #4 "Eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted." I don't know that ever crossed my mind but we often find that we do the direct opposite of our childhood fantasies on this one because we soon realize the consequences of junking out. :) Ooo, sounds like your Tuesday was a painful one! Keep warm and thanks for hosting the mid-week fun, my friend!

  11. I like that quote. I'm going to be on a plane the first weekend in February and now that you mention the flu maybe I'll get masks to wear, ugh. Thankfully since my kids grew up in the 80's and 90's I never put the words to popular songs from that period to memory. Psalty the singing songbook is another story. :) You are quick draw magraw paying taxes already! Have a great rest of your week.

  12. I hope the dentist was a check up rather than treatment and that today is tax free! Nice range of questions as always.

  13. Oh, visiting the dentist and paying taxes...two of my least favorite experiences! Hope all went well with both :)

  14. Good to join up today, enjoyed the questions and in the process found that awesome quote. I was glad I had the HP questions to work on yesterday since we were housebound. At least I got to exercise my brain by thinking of answers. Blessings!

  15. Good questions, Joyce, and I always enjoy reading your answers to your own questions! :) I think I need to see when my next dentist appt is. Hmmmm.

  16. I just didn't make it on the Hodgepodge this week. At nine last night, I looked at Hubby and gasped "Is it really Tuesday night? I haven't done the Hodgepodge!!" Oh well, next week maybe we won't have an inch of snow and life will be back to normal. Yep, we're Louisiana Strong until it snows. I'm going to apply your quote to myself and reword it like this: "If you wait for inspiration to paint you're not a painter. You're a waiter."

  17. I didn't think of the eating what I want whenever I want, but that's a great adulting thing that isn't always as great as it might seem. Love your words to inspire you for this year - I went with a similar theme.
    Have a great week.

  18. A good reason to Blog is that people may learn about God through what we write.

    God bless.

  19. I like the quote by Dan Poynter. I'm trying to be a writer and not a waiter!

Good questions this week; and good advice to avoid air travel during flu season!!!

  20. Thank you for another Wednesday Hodgepodge. I too share you love for the written word. I love a clever turn of a phrase or double entendre. I especially like well written humor, the stuff that makes me laugh out loud.
Your random thought sounds painful to some degree. Enjoy the rest of your week and Lord willing, see you next Wednesday.

  21. "What in the world would I do with all the words in my head if I didn't blog?" I love that! So did you get any snow? We have almost 10 inches here...so unexpected but beautiful...2 snow days in row! And yes. I can agree with your #4 answer...wish I would have thought of it!
